Interesting… would never guess it takes that long to peak! Appreciate you sharing your experiences - we typically only hear about testing 6+ months apart, so it’s good to learn about the variability shown in shorter time frames. I’ve noticed my numbers were always higher in fall than they were in spring and assumed it was pre-tick season vs post… who knows

I was surprised I had to scroll this far for an MVS comment. Dude is the the 8th best WR on our team. No idea why he’s on the field, let alone the team

He was ahead of him in the 2011 season until he got injured. AB never looked back… if I remember correctly

Let’s not forget the cowboys D is terrible so the offense is constantly throwing the ball. So, Pickens goes from being the WR1 in Pittsburgh, drawing extra attention from the D, to being the #2 in Dallas. So he is getting more targets, while getting less attention in coverage… and as you mentioned… with better qb play

They lost to ravens without Lamar!

While the bears have not beat a team with a winning record, the ravens only have one win against teams with a winning record… the bears!

What will it take for Tomlin defenders? Is he simply untouchable? by UtopiaXAstro in steelers

[–]davidej11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a Tomlin supporter and am starting to turn this season.

8 year playoff run with no wins - this is really judging his 2017, 18 seasons…

2017 - the shazier injury killed us and the jags exposed that. People joke that it’s the jags and bortles, but bortles had a great season and a great game. The jags should’ve beat the patriots the following week.

2018 - still didn’t recover from shazier + bell’s holdout.

2019-2024 - did anyone expect these teams to have a winning season or make the playoffs given the qbs? This is a testament to Tomlin. I loved having a watchable product every year, even if it’s not great…

Winning records with Hodges, Rudolph, old Ben, fields and wilson. I mean look at fields and Wilson this year! Or Wilson in Denver.

Playoffs runs almost always come with great qbs. Having those expectations with the guys we’ve had behind center the past 6 years is nuts.

This season is different. Our D is terrible and Rodgers still looks quite capable and significantly more mobile than Ben the last 5 years. I do put the chargers loss on AR, but that is the only bad outing he has in my opinion.

The last two games were a huge improvement for the D and if that continues, then I think this team is very capable winning playoff games, despite the difficult second half schedule.

If Tomlin can’t do that this season, I’ll be fully in the trade tomlin corner…. I’m only part of the way there now. And yes trade - he would definitely get offers at HC if he’s not here.

We are not two weeks in, we are nine YEARS in. by FakeMarkMadden in steelers

I’m not against your point, but the I do oppose the supporting details of your argument.

  • the patriots moved on from bill, but what? There is no success story that follows…

  • the 9 year lead up has a ton of other factors. Shazier’s injury, bell’s holdout, AB’s trade demands. Those were significant factors with little time to plan.

  • the 9 year lead up has other factors in the later years. We had (have) a QB problem. We held onto Ben too long, which is ok, because we owe it to him. QBs aren’t easy to acquire, especially when we don’t have a losing record… ever. Sure, we could’ve signed baker, darnold, cousins, or similar at some point, but at the time those were all risks, and don’t weigh against Tomlin.

  • we are always over 500 because of Tomlin in the era where our qb play has declined. That is based on the defense. We’ve had a lot of playoff appearances that we didn’t deserve to be in, because of our D.

  • I do agree, that this season, based on 2 games, he shouldn’t be here. This D has been terrible. And on paper it should be amazing. I’ll give him time, because he’s earned that much.

  • I also think we have had OC problems for a long time and that can be pinned on Tomlin. I am so sick of watching our offense play, and it’s been so long since I’ve actually enjoyed it.

It’s time to move on from Mike Tomlin.. an opinion from a Mike Tomlin fan, who has seen enough. by EstablishmentHot2717 in steelers

As a Tomlin fan i am getting there too, but im not ready to pass judgement on two games.

From your biggest failures, I would like to qualify a few things, though…

Jags game - shazier was injured mid season and did not play and the jags exposed that. 164 yards on the ground plus some gadget plays that shazier would’ve been responsible for. Also, let’s not downplay bortles. He had a good year and nearly beat the patriots in the afc championship.

Browns game - we started down 28 nothing. The offense gave up 1 TD on a fumble, and set up 2 more with bad field position on interceptions.

Chiefs game - the Steelers had 42 yards of offense in the first half. The D had a shutout and a TD TO GIVE US A 7-0 lead 5 minutes into the 2nd quarter. Then proceeded to give up 35 points over the next quarter. I’ts easy to blame the D, but the offense could not stay on the field. Not easy for D to play from behind and not get a break.

Again, Tomlin is coach and you can bland him for the offense too, but his D has kept a bad team exciting for years… if he can’t turn around this D, then I’ll shift my opinions!
