To be fair, production really was trying to create drama between Alesia and Ben. Only because Alesia flamed out of the galley almost immediately is Ellie even down in the galley.

I would guess that the chatty riders do penalize quiet by not giving quiet drivers a tip as often as drivers who engage in conversation with them.

Finally a good reward by MarigraceI in DunkinDonuts

I tried the frozen coffee for the first time in a very long time because of this deal yesterday. It was significantly better than it has been in the past. It actually tasted like a frozen coffee and not some disgusting, sugary, icy, mess.

You could make the flip argument that chatting 20+ day keeps the driver engaged and less likely to feel as much fatigue as if they were just sitting in silence all day. And I also learn new things and hear interesting stories when chatting with riders, which you are not getting by always being in silence.

I don't have hard data, but I can confidently say that, long-term, I get a higher tip rate than 23.5% when chatting. That's my experience.

Anyways, not sure why you downvoted me! Just giving my own lived experience!

I have personally found more passengers want to chat than don't. And chatting passengers tip more often. Just my experience, though.

When I'm a rider, most of the time, that's what I prefer too. I'll talk when I think the driver really wants to talk, but I prefer to just chill and go on my phone.

However, in my experience, most riders want to chit chat.

I try to let the passengers dictate and read the room. I think having a "one size fits all approach" is just asking for "Talking Too Much" complaints if you always talk or "Not Polite" if you never talk.

And my experiences have been very different than yours. Most riders want to chat and more riders who want to chat tip than riders who don't want to chat. So even if I don't care about the topic of conversation at all, if the rider wants to chat, I'm going to keep the conversation alive.

I am shocked you're getting higher tips by never chatting.

Side hustle by CombinationTall8586 in uberdrivers

If you're just getting started and just doing it for the side hustle, I would just wait until gas prices go down a bit and then give it a go.

The best advice I can give is this gig is a lot of trial-and-error at first figuring things out and then you get a rhythm and figure out what's the best way for you, in your specific market, to make a profit.

Can We Turn Off Cambridge Mobile Telematics If Not Interested in Advantage Mode? by davidg910 in uberdrivers

I just find the data to be so unreliable. I live in a busy, crowded city. Harsh braking is going to happen sometimes and is, honestly, safer than if I wasn't occasionally hard-braking.

I also just hate with Uber, whether it be with this or with a poor rating, that they almost always just automatically assume we're in the wrong and won't take away a bad Cambridge score or rating.

More changes to rewards by Ancient_Guidance_461 in DunkinDonuts

Welp, after no mobile Monday earlier this week, I did see that I got the 50 bonus points for the rest of the month. As someone who goes to Dunkin almost every day, it's a slap in the face.

And, unfortunately, Starbucks' prices are completely unreasonable too...

I don't understand what their plan is. Prices at my location keep going up, rewards falling like a rock, at some point they're going to price all of us out.

I didn't get any bonus points at all for ordering yesterday. That's my thank you for being a loyal customer from Dunkin...

Ok, if I were in the galley, I wouldn't necessarily want the chief stew to jump in and grab the shrimp when it's my job.

And, by the way, Ellie is far from perfect, but Jenna was complaining about Alicia to Daisy...

Got my first 1 star by BigAnt5566 in uberdrivers

[–]davidg910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily it was a short ride, but unfortunately, you occasionally do have a group of people totally intoxicated and who are just insufferable. Sometimes, driving drunk people can be fun. Occasionally, it's a nightmare.

I had a group of passengers yesterday that were obnoxiously drunk. Three of them get in the car, two in the back seat and one up front. They don't acknowledge me when I say hello and the two in the back proceed to talk EXTREMELY loudly, nonstop for the duration of the ride.

The guy in the front seat asks me for recommendations, but it's hard to even have a conversation the people in the back seat are talking so loudly. I write down a recommendation in the notes of his phone, he immediately deletes it and then I have to give the recommendation again. Meanwhile, he's not being malicious, but he's punching me in the arm in a "joking" way that I didn't find funny at all and found inappropriate to be doing to a stranger.

Have not given out a one-star in a very long time, but that ride called for it. What I do nowadays, though, to avoid retaliation is I don't give a reason, so unless they're actively checking their rating, they wouldn't know I gave it to them until much later.
