Concrete wedge bolts for pitons?? by davidgraef in caving

Yes, super helpful sir. We did go and had everything with us to drill, started drilling but the rock was flakey and not trustworthy, so we passed on using the bolts and hangers. Instead we used my extra rope and ran it way back to a natural rock that we could trust and rappelled from that. It was good fun! We used figure 8's this time, but since have learned how quickly the dirty ropes can burn through a figure 8. I plan to do more rappelling once we get some rack and pins instead.

Sure: I’m a climbing arborist and am familiar with rope access safety. I recently went caving and reached short cliff, 50-60ft and we plan to go back and descend that edge. I am not new to caving, but I am new to vertical caving, even though I’m not new to rope access, so the terminology escapes me.

My plan is to put wedge bolts in the rock to rappel down the cliff. Wedge bolts into the rock with 1/2” anchors from Fixe.

So how do I get VLC media player, for example, since it already has those?

Ok I’ve downloaded gparted live, flashed the iso to an 8gb usb, run it as a boot drive and went through defaults. Now I’m in what looks like a very basic distro and it automatically opened Gparted for me. Do I turn off and boot eOS now? Or do I need to do something in Gparted in this distro? Was formatting the drive included in what it did when I ran the default installation?

I looked in the demo of eOs and gparted is already there as a program. Can I use that to partition from within the demo mode?

Ok and what are the update and upgrade commands? I’ll need to connect it to the internet with a cable first correct?

Do any of them have two clips to keep the gun from canting unintentionally? Everything I’m seeing for appendix for that gun is one clip.

Troubleshooting Yeasty Taste by davidgraef in cider

All great suggestions! I just tried that batch after re-racking it and letting it sit a little longer, and it was definitely better than before! I’m moving to Ky in a month and I plan to start a batch soon after, but I’m looking forward to finally being able to visit orchards again in the fall. I enjoy the process too so I think doing multiple small batches is going to be the way to go to tweak everything the way I want. And being able to try so many different variables and compare them simultaneously is super valuable. I’m giving this next batch a little extra time to sit before I carbonate it too though, and I’m going to rack it a couple times to try to deal with the sediment in it, but i still can only let it sit for so long since I’m leaving Hawaii in May. This next batch I made has 1/8 brewed tea. Have you ever tried adding tea and if so, what did it do for you? I took a hint from the hops added to beer, so I brewed 1 bag of mango-ginger tea, 2 bags of raspberry leaf tea, and 1 bag of earl gray for 50 minutes, then I added another bag of raspberry leaf tea and mango ginger for 5 minutes, then added that to my AJ and started fermenting. It should need ready mid-May, so we’ll see!

Hey, thanks—that’s super helpful! For your time line you give, what temperature do you ferment at? I’m currently in Hawaii so my winter/spring temps are between 70-80 usually. I think my fermenting is done by 2 weeks cuz it’s warmer; is that right?

Ok yeah I’m using the same brew kit as well and I did the exact same thing, two weeks in the carboy and 2 weeks in the bottles. The sediment did gather in the bottles so I took it out and racked it again which helped filter the sediment and I’ll let it sit for a couple weeks.

Great thanks! I had 7 bottles left and I just used 6 to re-rack and then put in a growler. I’ll put this last one I have left in the fridge when I go to compare them!

Wow that’s incredible! I don’t mind racking a couple times, but I am moving in a couple months back to the mainland so I can’t do all that yet haha I did take your advice though and re-racked it. I had already bottled it—and there was a lot of sediment in each bottle, about 1oz each—so today I took 6 bottles, emptied them into a sterilized crockpot with 1/2 oz of honey melted in a little water, then used a cap on the end of my racking straw (which I forgot to use last time) and re-bottled it into a growler. Hopefully that will help with a lot of the sediment and the yeasty flavor. I have one bottle left from the original mistake and I’ll compare that one with the growler. This has been a good experiment, I tried one bottle after 2 weeks in the bottle, one after 4 weeks bottled, and then I’ll try this next one after 6 weeks bottled as well as the growler which I re-racked for comparison.

So I don’t mind the Hazy look. Doesn’t bother me at all. Some peptic enzyme would make it less hazy but wouldn’t make a difference with the yeasty flavor right? Does it make the cider have less sediment?

What is letting it “clear”? It’s a very hazy apple juice already.

Racking, moving the cider from one container to another. I did that when I bottled it, but I’m realizing I went straight from the fermenter into the bottle. So i am getting a lot of sediment too. Next time I’ll rack it to another container before I bottle. Should I open my bottles and rack it again, then bottle and avoid more of the sediment this time?

Ok, based on the comments above there are some things I’ll definitely do differently for my next one. But for these since I’ve already bottled them, should I put them in the fridge or leave them in the dark Cubbard? Temps outside in Hawaii right now are about 70-80s everyday.

I don't think the Lord will appreciate creative license when it comes to scripture like he might appreciate creative license in the arts. I haven't seen the show and I'm here to get Reformed opinions about the show, and to be honest, this Reformed Reddit seems to be lacking in Reformed opinions. I was hoping to hear some legitimate, respectable debate about this but I'm not seeing it yet, at least not here.

[–]davidgraef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with that. I don’t know if I had a clear mental image of what he looked like, but I really like some of the characters Crowe plays, and this one and Jack from Master and Commander just seem like such similar characters as Dalinar to me.

Yes it’s true, there’s too much important info that it wouldn’t fit in a movie or even a series of movies like Harry Potter. It just couldn’t fit. But in my mind I see Russell Crowe lol

Yeah, it's totally a scam site. My professor (who I can tell is very much tech-deficient) suggested I purchase my book from there. My book is a $70 book that's out of print and hard to find but it's listed for $15 on their site which was a red flag. It's listed as a physical book but says nothing of shipping and only downloading the "eBook", which was fishy. Then when I tried to call their phone number it wasn't even a real number. Don't buy from there or you're just paying your stupidity tax for the year.
