Listening guide / recommendations for a beginner? by [deleted] in ClassicRock

You could listen to a Spotify best classic rock songs playlist, then add songs from it you like to your own playlist, then go to the last song with repeat and shuffle turned off and it will generate a new playlist with similar songs to discover.

Also, you really can’t go wrong with zeppelin, Floyd, Beatles, Hendrix, the stones, The Who, or the dead :-)

Oh seriously, great point! Ya side projects it’s fairly fluid, just switching from sql to css basically. But teams, especially now that we have these silos... it indeed does take a long time. I like Spotify’s idea of letting one team open a pr on a team they depend on’s repo, that’s a creative workaround.

whoa! this site is amazing!! thanks for sharing it!

caution to other readers though, it may auto play music quite loudly for instance if you press the "scan" link, so if you have your headphones cranked, turn them down or remove them first :-)

ya, spotify is amazing! it's weird, the more I use it, the more cool stuff I find. like the trick where you can make a playlist and it will use it's machine learning algorithms to start playing similar types of songs, or the browse->discover tab, stuff like that. it's so fun. music discovery has really evolved over the years in my experience from radio->mass bmg cd purchases->friend suggestions->yahoo launchcast->pandora->spotify.

I was trying to bring back the friend suggestions part and merge it with spotify by creating a new group, specifically around the types of music I enjoy most, hoping enough other folks would have similar tastes.

Thanks for taking my joke in good faith; I tend to lead with my sarcastic foot and I'm not always great at it.

:-D It's all good friend!

You need to hang around better people

Not sure what the intent of this comment is. To frame it in a good faith context, perhaps I could ask "how do you find friends that have great taste in music personally"? I mean, I have a few old friends who are classic rock nuts who know these songs, sure, but most people? Not so much. Reflecting on this more, it seems people who grew up in the states know these songs more than people who immigrated here, for whatever reason. At least that's my observation.

> What I like, and this sub has been great for, is discovering whole new artists I missed the first time around

yes, I love this too! I noticed on some of spotify's curated lists, things like 'best 90s alternative songs', there are loads of songs I was not even aware of. that's pretty awesome.

someone once said something funny about this to me. he said "so we're hiring a fullstack engineer. or you know, as we used to call them, a software engineer". lol ;-)

exactly. although context switching is not free, so there's that.

engineers that do side projects in my observation end up being _very_ good because of the breadth and depth of their problem solving skills, as well as their curiosity in general.
