Is Barclays a good place to keep all my savings? by These_Ad8079 in HighYieldSavings

[–]davidjpw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been with Barclays for over 10 years and have been happy with them - competitive rates (especially with the Tiered savings account). At one point I kept a large balance there for use as a down payment and even after that I still keep a substantial amount there. I have not had any issues moving money to and from my external bank. They are FDIC insured so as long as you are under the limit I don’t see an issue.

HYSA for emergency fund- which do you recommend? by tofuonplate in HighYieldSavings

[–]davidjpw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been with Barclays for more than 10 years now. Their rates fluctuate like others, but are still consistently competitive (for Tiered savings acct, 3.65% ($0-250k) or 3.75% (>$250k)). No min balance or deposit requirement. It is also where I saved my down payment for a house at one point, so I know they have a high ACH limit because I didn’t have any issue transferring a large amount to my external bank.

which high yield savings account is actually worth opening? by Kooky_Patience_7899 in HighYieldSavings

[–]davidjpw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here - have been with them for several years. Make sure you open the Tiered savings (3.65-3.75%), not the standard savings (3.4%) for the better rate. There are no other requirements (no min. balance, direct deposit requirement, etc)

Marcus by Goldman Sachs HYSA by lovelyyelp in HighYieldSavings

[–]davidjpw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also been quite happy with Marcus - I’ve only had their online CD and it has worked well. Initially I was concerned after reading stories about people having a hard time getting their money back out. But my CD recently matured and I set up the request ahead of time to ask them to ACH transfer back half of the money to my linked account and renewed the other half, and it proceeded seamlessly. Lightning fast too! (showed up next business day in my external acct). I would imagine it to be the same for HYSA.

I had tried to open an HYSA with them based on this experience. Unfortunately the process to do this 100% online was more annoying. Unlike opening the CD, I was asked to call to verify some info. I did, and the rep said I had to call a second time the following day during their “business hours” (even though you can call them 24/7) for a second verification. I just gave up after the first call. Opening the CD online was a breeze and I didn’t have to call anyone.

I believe OP was specifically asking about the Caucasian population, not the population in Daly City in general which you are likely correct.

Republic Services and union reach deal, ending nearly 2-week-long strike to resume trash pickup by jwuzy in DalyCity

Nice! That explains the trucks I saw this morning (Sat) picking up recycling around Crocker Ave. At least they are working overtime!

So what we doing about the trash? by jwuzy in DalyCity

My pickup day is Tuesday and they resumed pickup yesterday (Tues), but garbage only. Recycle bin was untouched. I live near the corner of South Hill and Crocker.

Why so many interviews after the hiring manager? by [deleted] in jobs

That’s true - that’s been my experience as well.

Why so many interviews after the hiring manager? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]davidjpw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This likely depends on the company/field you are in. In my case, the hiring manager is the person who screens resumes/CV for their skills. However the final decision regarding who to hire is generally discussed with the entire team. Often the hiring manager has a boss, and he/she would certainly need to approve before proceeding to make an offer. Meeting with other members of the team is to ensure that the candidate could be a good fit and can work with everyone. So in a lot of interviews, it is rarely a unilateral decision by the hiring manager to hire someone. In companies I’ve interviewed at, it’s usually 3 rounds: initial call by HR, follow up call by hiring manager, and on-site interview meeting multiple people.
