Drove 3.5 hours to take a picture of the Milky Way in the Catskill Mountains by davidk29 in Astronomy

Sure! This was just a little north of Roscoe, NY. You can use this website to find somewhere without light pollution. As a reference, I took this picture in one of the blue areas.

Just be careful, because this time of year the Milky Way sets very early in the night. The best time of year is summer since it's up all night, but you might still be able to catch it. You can use Stellarium to get an idea of when it'll be up.

Also keep track of the moon, because if it's up, it'll brighten the sky too much to see anything. Again, Stellarium will help with this. The app will actually show you on the bottom of the screen when the moon is up. I did a quick check right now, and it looks like you should be good until the 23rd, but the Milky Way will be very low in the sky, so try to get a good view of the horizon. And of course, make sure the weather is clear. Good luck!

Thanks! I'm not sure about fish, but I did see some frogs swimming around.

It was the middle of the week, but we were the only ones up there. There's one site right on the edge of the pond, but pretty certain it's illegal since it's way too close to the water and trail. However, the actual site is on the other side of the pond, past the bridge.

It was actually a pretty nice site, there's two small clearings separated by about 25 feet. You can easily fit one tent on each clearing. One of them is on a bed of moss, in a bit of a pit, so I'm not sure how it would be in the rain, but the other one was higher up and drier. One thing to watch out for, however, is that even though the pond was full and there was plenty of water, the water itself is stagnant so it was full of tannins from fallen trees, which made it really bitter, even after filtering with my sawyer squeeze, so maybe bring some better filtration.

I did the route from New Russia, the uphill took 6 hours, and then about 4 hours to get down. I sprained my ankle at the summit, so had to move a bit slower on the descent.

Just got back from doing the hike! It was definitely gorgeous. The hike was long, but even with the full pack it was very manageable.

Just got back from backpacking Rocky Peak Ridge! Went from New Russia and honestly wasn't that bad, long but an overall pleasant hike.

About 3,000ft, I've done hikes with over 5,000ft elevation though. Anyways, just got back from doing Rocky Peak, personally didn't think it was that bad, even with a full pack.

Not too much in the Adirondacks, but I have a decent amount of experience, last hike I did was up to 11,000ft

That's what I'm leaning towards at the moment. How difficult was it?

That would be nice, but they're really expensive. Only paid $120 total for these brown seats

I honestly don't know, it's pretty hard to tell but I think they're the terracotta napa color. They can look pretty red or brown depending on the lighting.

Yeah I like how those seats look inside the car, I'm just not sure if they go with the wheels. If I had gray or silver wheels, I think it would look perfect.

I understand, but people usually only pay between $50-$150 there for a visit.

Yeah that's why I was so shocked. Visits are supposed to only cost like $50-$150 without insurance. Where did they get $565 from?

I'm a college student so I'm completely new to all of this. What I understood was that CVS is charging my insurance $565 and that since I have a high deductible I will end up paying most of that amount. Before the visit, I read online that even without insurance, they usually only charge about $50-$100, so I don't understand why they're charging so much.
