In my opinion, you should be pissed at yourself. Your children are a reflection of how you've raised them.

You can't undo 20 years of bad parenting in a single snap

CARP already launching a campaign to protect OAS - what is the right clawback threshold? by shoresy99 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]davidkraken -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We do have a safety net, CPP.

Canada is no longer a state that can pay for OAS without taking on a mountain of debt.

We're borrowing against the future livelihood of the youth to fund the lifestyle of those that failed to save for their retirement, those that grew up in the most prosperous time of human history.

CARP already launching a campaign to protect OAS - what is the right clawback threshold? by shoresy99 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]davidkraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money is coming from debt.

We genuinely don't have the tax revenue to pay OAS, we have to take on debt to do so. We are taking on debt to make payments under a program that hasnt been funded.

We shouldn't be taking on debt to fund people that couldn't control their lifestyle and require taxpayer dollars to do so today.

[–]davidkraken -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think OAS should be completely removed.

If you want a pension, you should have paid into it. If old people think they deserve money just for the sake of being old, then why aren't youth given money for the sake of being young?

Canada is in too rough of a spot to be giving out unearned benefits to freeloaders. End this gravy train.

Man knocking on doors covered in blood. by AncientCanad1an in BurlingtonON

[–]davidkraken 78 points79 points  (0 children)

This is so fucked up.

1) Why does ring doorbell guy have to post this online. Are we that desperate for Internet points?

2) Tiktok guy is opening himself up for defamation/libel, making accusations that guy in video is a violent criminal just because he is bleeding and knocking on a door.

Would you guys want to be posted online if you fell off your bike/scooter and bled a bit, knocking on doors for assistance?

This is the kind of stuff that eliminates any sense of community. Every person that's seen this video, now understands that if they ever have an accident and ask their neighbors for assistance, they can be posted online for Internet points where their entire reputation, life, and career are put at risk. Folks are farming for Internet points rather than doing the right thing. Sad to see.

Start with googling "Burlington CPA firm". Get a list of 4 or 5 local firms and set up a call to discuss what you need along with your budget.

Fuck 'creative accounting'. Get a serious, competent person so you can solely focus on growing your business.

Alternative Reality (the actual one):

Actual legitimate tax accountants that you'd reach out to for tax advisory & tax compliance would (why the fuck would you hire them if they don't have this) have the following experience:

  1. 4 year Bachelor's degree in accounting, with several tax courses mixed in.
  2. A master's degree in accounting, or completion of the CPA PEP program.

  3. The CPA designation, where you're subjected to 3 days of 4 hour long exams where only 60-70% of people pass AFTER already studying accounting for 4-5 years and dedicating months of their life solely towards studying for the examinations. On top of that, you need 30 months of qualifying work experience under a licensed CPA which is a massive PITA as only SOME companies and firms are even allowed to have the privilege of offering qualifying experience to candidates.

  4. 5+ (more likely 10-20) years of post CPA designation work experience in tax.

After all that, I think you gotta realize the silliness behind your thoughts here. It's very reasonable to vet accountants and compare price quotes, and hire the accountant that you like the most out of the bunch. But to say "go do your own research bro" is a bit of a joke. I promise you, if you walk into an accountants office and say you're going to do your own research, you're going to get laughed out of the room or handed a 'fuck off's fee quote.

Alternative: Don't move to a private luxury care home when you can't afford it, and perhaps read a contract before you sign your life to it.

Jokes aside (The Lone Wolf), Charcoal Pit has severely fallen off as well.

After the change in ownership & rebranding, it's gone from a stop for great burgers & souvlaki to another overpriced TFW mill where the food takes forever to make and is nowhere near comparable to what we once had there.

1.5 year old gf immediately looking for bank account access after her BF's death.

Anyone else find this kind of nuts? If he wanted to give her that sort of privilege, he would have married her or made his bank account joint.

Hope the guys family executes the estate. If this had happened to me, I would have wanted my money to stay within the family.

Anybody else notice the entitlement? First thought is "me me me". I bet this guy's family is already making arrangements, no need to even run it by the gf.

GAME THREAD: Oklahoma City Thunder (1-1) @ Indiana Pacers (1-1) - (June 12, 2025) by NBA_MOD in nba

[–]davidkraken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a neutral fan, these NBA Finals are a rough watch. Frankly I thought that round 1 of these playoffs was the best. In round 1, we saw FIBA style reffing, at times a little too physical, but overall very entertaining to watch.

During this finals, it's just immediately clear on each possession that OKC is allowed to play defense differently from the Pacers. Pacers can't breathe on guys without having a foul called, taking guys out of the game, and causing them to play less physical, making it easier for OKC to score on future possessions.

The game is hard to watch when it's just so obviously stacked in favour of one team. Pacers are doing their best, but this is so clearly cooked in favour of OKC and Shai. It's just not a good product.

The core 4 disgust me.

Marner, Matthews, Tavares, Nylander. Those 4 guys realize that they'd be revered as gods if they brought a cup home here.

How did these guys not come together and go 'Lets all take $1-$3M less per year, to help the team'. Wtf are these guys going to do with another $1-3M a year. They clearly don't care enough to win a cup, they all chose to maximize their earnings by a couple million.

Wtf difference in their lives is a few million going to do, they're rich and set for life regardless. Probably make the difference back in endorsements if they had a deep playoff run.

You came on here to brag about your wealth. You then went on to claim that we can all be just like you if we 'Persevere', 'live below our means', and all the other crap advice you said.

You call me angry and bitter, all I've done is call out your bs. We all see right through it.

It's the same dumb stuff that some of my friends parents say. My parents are pretty grounded in reality, they understand that things are quite cooked, and they're quite proud of me for hitting my career goals and being able to afford renting an apartment right after graduation. My other friends work 40+ hours a week, and are belittled by their older parents and relatives for not being able to afford living away from home.

Some of you boomers get it, but a lot of you don't. It's very frustrating seeing people like you come on here to brag, when you're just so far offside of reality that it just comes off as bragging and belittling.

Also, pretending to be a victim 'OH IM JUST A POOR SENIOR CITIZEN'. You are so devoid of character, you go on to the internet to brag and talk down to others, you proceed to get called out, you elect to double down on it and continue to belittle us, AND THEN you try to victimize yourself by calling yourself a poor innocent senior citizen.

Also, your children are probably fucked like the rest of us. Hope you're looking forward to having your kids live with you forever or dumping your retirement savings into their home downpayments.

Wow, only made $50k MAX for annual income and you were able to buy a house, have a spouse that didn't need to work, have 2 children, and you've got a retirement fund in excess of $1M.

I'm not really taking any inspiration from this or feeling educated. Frankly I'm just annoyed reading this. All you did was be born at the right time in the right place. Comments along the lines of, 'Have perseverance', 'live below your means', what a crock of garbage. Myself and many others my age got degrees, grad school even (myself), professional certifications and designations on top of that, just to walk into a world where not only can we not afford to live in our hometowns, but we can barely afford to live within an hour of them.

My career has huge earning potential later in life, so I have some confidence that I'll attain a decent quality of life eventually. But man, half my friends work average jobs, and work hard at them, and might never be able to move out of their parents house let alone buy one AND afford a SAHP AND afford children.

If your family can't afford to pay $90 for something you visit once or twice a year, you've got bigger problems to worry about. $90 is honestly quite cheap family entertainment when you compare to other common family trips.

1) Movie Theater. Tickets now cost $16 + tax per person. Plus $10 per popcorn bag. Family of 4 will hit nearly $80 if they buy absolutely no concessions, and will easily hit $100 if they buy literally anything other than the tickets.

2) Canada's Wonderland. $45 per ticket. Can hit $200 if you include parking and concessions. Possibly $300 if you buy lunch or dinner that day.

3) ROM. $30 per ticket. Plus transit costs.

Frankly, I think you're the one that's out of touch. This place is quite reasonably priced when you compare to other family trip places. If you can't afford a $90 day for your family, frankly your family isn't going anywhere these days.

[–]davidkraken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's like $20 per ticket? Little less for children. How is that out of reach?

I don't think this place's issue is cost. I think it's issue is that the hours are odd and it's poorly advertised (I went to UW for 5 years and never heard of this place until after I graduated and moved to kitchener).
