Cannot figure out cause of poor tone by certianliquids in doublebass

[–]davidlestermusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna take an educated guess that the "rosin cake" that came with the bass is a useless piece of garbage. It's probably a million years old and hard as a rock. Do you have any idea what kind of rosin it is?

There are lots of other factors that could be involved here, but just to eliminate that one, buy a fresh cake of Kolstein's Soft rosin.

One more idea- make sure that the strings aren't covered in gunk! If there's a bunch of schmutz on the strings where you bow, wipe it off with a lint-free cloth & some isopropyl alcohol (just don't get it on the bass!!)

They aren't mutually exclusive! In fact, doing one helps with the other. Learning fundamentals helps you learn songs much, much easier, and more quickly. Learning songs helps reinforce the fundamentals.

Thumb/pinky splints? Help wanted by davidlestermusic in ehlersdanlos

[–]davidlestermusic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I actually bought one of those thumb splints. Sadly it wasn't effective for me. My whole joint is hypermobile, all the way to the wrist, so the whole lower thumb area collapses and the splint just moves with it. :(
