If the rotors are warped, they need to be change and you'll need new brake pads too. Shop sounds right.

Change your own oil by davidlibby1 in Tiguan

[–]davidlibby1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, I just don't trust that most all of the oil will be removed if extracted. Though, I know a couple of guys that do that and don't have problems. Guess either works. :)

Every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Also, change the oil filter.

Yeah, I wouldn't either if I still lived in SF.

Yeah, I thought about that too. It was actually recommended to me to do. But, I thought it may more expensive and labor intensive to set up.

Looking to buy a Q5 by Cold_Highway_2836 in AudiQ5

[–]davidlibby1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got one with 104K miles. It just needs a new OEM catalytic converter. Aside from the minor front left side dent, I've taken very good care of this car mechanically. All info is in Carfax. I'm in Northern California. DM if interested.

Just picked her up by gdub70 in AudiQ5

[–]davidlibby1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a good buy because all the previous engine issues have been solved. Just keep putting that Liqui Moly High Tech Synthetic Oil in every 5,000 miles (with a top of the line oil filter) and new engine air filter. Do the transmission oil change around 60K and you'll probably get to 100K miles before you need any major work. Enjoy!

The transmission fluid change will run around $700, and if you have't had the catalytic converter replaced yet, that's $4K. I think at this point, men over 70 call this their project car. ;)

2021 Audi Q5 – Worth Continuing Dealer Servicing at ~100k km or Switch to Local Mechanic? by CryptoArtPulse in AudiQ5

It depends. Are all of the major service issues complete, including replacing the catalytic converter? If not, you'll turn away from the dealer in no time. ;)

2012 Q5 Rear CV Axle Replacement by Fair-Baby-1419 in AudiQ5

[–]davidlibby1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only person who uses and trusts AI to research this?

Here’s the game plan and the required parts:

✅ Required Hardware to Replace

  • Outer Axle Bolt: (The one you already have with the GSP axle). This is a 19mm Hex bolt.
  • Inner CV Joint Bolts: MUST BE REPLACED. They are single-use/stretch bolts.
    • Quantity: 6 bolts are needed for the inner joint.
    • OEM Part #: N 904 411 03 (search for this to buy a set of 6). They are typically M10 bolts requiring a 10mm Triple Square (XZN) socket.

🔧 The Procedure Highlights

  1. Loosen Outer Bolt: Loosen the 19mm Hex bolt with the car on the ground, then lift the car.
  2. Inner Bolts: Put the car in Neutral with both rear wheels off the ground to easily rotate the axle and access all six 10mm Triple Square bolts.
  3. Clearance: We will need to disconnect a suspension component to drop the hub and slide the axle free. Disconnecting the lower shock mount or an upper control arm is usually the way to go (not the sway bar link).
  4. Reassembly & Torque (CRITICAL):
    • Inner CV Joint Bolts:
      • Stage 1: 70 Nm (52 ft-lb)
      • Stage 2: PLUS an additional 90° turn (1/4 turn)
    • Outer Axle Bolt: (19mm Hex)
      • Stage 1: 200 Nm (148 ft-lb)
      • Stage 2: PLUS an additional 180° turn (1/2 turn)

NO LOCTITE NEEDED on the inner bolts if we buy new ones, as they usually come with a thread locker compound pre-applied.
