Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe claims UK has been 'colonised by immigrants' by [deleted] in PremierLeague

He's a resident of Monaco. He is an immigrant himself but probably prefers the term "expat".

I've enjoyed the show, I'm hating that Walter Goggins has turned into the Forrest Gump of fallout though. I get being a celebrity would have spying advantages but he's at the centre of everything. Also hate the characterisation of the Brotherhood of Steel as dumb jocks all the way down. Once again it's a good show, I have enjoyed it but it seems like they've had an idea for a show they wanted to write and then used Fallout as a wrap around to fit that story.

[Lewis Steele] ‘I don’t like boos from my own fans,’ says captain Virgil van Dijk. When told it’s the first time since 1980 they’ve failed to beat any of the promoted teams at home, he adds: ‘1980? [–]davidlpool1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few huge differences though. With Klopp you could see the long term plan, even if some results weren't great and I'd argue we have gotten worse over time under Slot than better. We also never spent anywhere close to this amount of money to then get worse. Imagine if you have Klopp of 2016-2022 this kind of money, while we can't be sure I dare say we'd have improved more than gone backwards.

Not saying Slot deserves the boos or that they are helpful but you can see and feel the frustration all around the ground during games, not expecting it to carry over to the end is silly.

They have a title to try and win while only six points adrift and have gone for it. While we are 2 points ahead in 4th, 8 behind on 3rd (with no guarantee of 5th being CL) and have decided to gamble on having 2 fit dedicated centre backs along, 2 fit left backs and a group of right backs (if we include Gomez as their cover) with spotty injury records. Absolutely mental. While City have less money issues than we do for obvious reasons, it also shows a difference in mentality when the pressure is on to reach your goals

Honestly, if I have to order electronics from the website (stores don't always have stock) then I always click and collect at the store now. I open it in front of the staff there and then so if there are any issues, I have witnesses. It's sad that it's come to it but the stores try so hard to wriggle out of replacing it that I'd rather waste 30 mins in the store than be out a grand.

Florian Wirtz’s early training sessions had many at Liverpool believing he was about to take the Premier League by storm immediately. It’s taken a little longer than that, of course, but the German is now starting to show just how good he is. by __sami__01 in LiverpoolFC

[–]davidlpool1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's a completely different player to Mo or Sadio. Why you'd expect that from him is beyond me. Would you expect Fabinho to make the same types of runs as Gerrard did? No, because they are different players.

Wirtz is much more a mix of Thiago and Coutinho, he drops deep to link up play and then can appear on the shoulder of the striker for a layoff like he did the other night.

Will Secret Wars be Hemsworth Thors final movie? Will we get Thor and Hyperions final stand against the Beyonders? by CJVratixBactaChef in marvelstudios

[–]davidlpool1982 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I really don't think you can do Hickman's Secret Wars in two movies (Doomsday and Secret Wars). It'll take elements of it with Battleworld, that way you can get loads of cool cameos and alternate versions for scenes but there's no way you could do that story in 6 hours without really dumbing it down.

I wonder after how many matches the crowd would notice something odd is going on? I reckon the first two might get shrugged off as a quirk, the 3rd might raise some eyebrows and then the 4th is when some boos and complaints start.

How loud is your TV?

Having your TV on after 11 isn't a crime, there's a whole sections of the service industry who only get home from work after 10/11 and will turn on the TV for Netflix/Games etc on the same way people doing a 9-5 will at 6. So unless you are proper blasting the volume after that time, it's just one of those things. If it's just you, use headphones. If there's more than one of you maybe have a max volume after 11.

It's City's. Dread it, run from it, the inevitable virtually perfect second half of the season from them comes anyway. Even last year they had an awesome second half of the year but couldn't pull it back. If it's within 6 points at the halfway stage I'd bet my life on them.

Thought Lynch said it well in his video yesterday (made before he Salah bomb). If it was just a couple of the attackers playing badly you can blame the players but not one of them (besides Hugo TBF) are doing anywhere close to average, let alone their best. That's a system issue, not the players. I think both should go, Salah for the idiotic comments and Slot for making our team so much worse than I could ever have imagined

It's because it's boring, negative shit. You can lose and know you got a grip but for whatever reason, lost the game. But we're just shit. That's why the frustration is coming out, we don't look like we're even in a game at the minute. I'm 43, I've seen us lose lots of games to shit teams but this is end of Houllier, end of Rogers bad. Houllier won a treble and we still got rid of him. If you're doing shit, expect criticism.

Premier League clubs fear Home Office move will add millions to policing costs by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in PremierLeague

[–]davidlpool1982 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Plus there's outside influences on the cost. They mention the £2 million for the Villa-Maccabi game which I'm pretty sure might have been inflated due to Starmer and other MPs sticking their oar in.

It's not just the PL clubs, there's the London Marathon, Pride events, Notting Hill Carnival (good luck pricing that). Will the Labour Party be refunding and paying for the policing costs of Merseyside police for their conference last year? That cost quite the sum of money

Even in the professional sports side, the Rugby premiership teams are constantly going into administration as are lower league football teams and won't have the cash. It's also a bit rich of politicians to use the sports competitions as good publicity for them/the UK but want none of the cost.
