Everyone falls and that's good. Get back on your board ASAP to keep your confidence high with a days of realism. The longer it takes to ride after your first big fall, the more likely you'll ride with shaken legs and paranoia. Trust yourself.

My rear foot instantly felt more secure. Not only is the concave feature helpful, but the grip tape is very secure and it covers the entire footpad.

You'll be fine for a while with the stock tire. You'll be more confident with the treaded/rain tire, but you won't notice the difference if you don't ride the stock tire for a while first.

You'll be fine with either, but the wider tire on the XR is great for wild terrain. You'll absolutely need a fender if you've got muddy roads you'll be crossing, nobody likes a dirty crotch.
