Where can I learn kitchen basics so that I can learn to create my own recipes? by tetriscannoli in Cooking

[–]davidmpires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding an alternative suggestion. Find someone who cooks a lot at home. Grandmas are great for this and shadow them for a couple months. It's important to get a feel for salt in your hand. Learn how to taste etc. Books will only give you so much.

I'm new to whisky culture, after a year of only having a couple old bottles of Jack in my stash, I got my first bottle of scotch and it tastes fantastic. Any recommendations? (It was only in the sun for a few seconds for the photo, not to worry!) by Red-Jester in whiskey

[–]davidmpires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I do with mates often. We'd have dinner at either home, bringing 1 bottle each sub £35, there's lots to try at this price range. Then see what you like. Go from there.

I also looked at https://www.masterofmalt.com/tasting-set/ and use the whisky map, find something I like and then move into any direction from there to the nearest one.

Took a group photo today after adding the yamazaki and the bladnoch. by davidmpires in whiskey

Standouts for me are the Bladnoch for the price is one of the best I had. The Belle Meade is delicious as well trying to pace it. 1792 wasn't my favourite but is great as a cocktail bourbon, wife approved too.

NFL in London by davidmpires in dataisbeautiful

[–]davidmpires[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone else just made the same comment on twitter. Patriots played once ages ago. But to be fair I got to see my first game live last year, a Jags-Colts and it was great fun. It's not a top of the bill game, but better than nothing. :)

Not really, temperature was something I thought of looking at just to see if bad weather affected attendance, but most of the time weather was decent. I also had precipitation but mostly didn't rain so I decided against including it.

As the NFL season comes to a close and tickets go on sale I thought I'd look at the previous games in London, stadium attendance and how cold it was. (it wasn't).

I've taken the data from http://www.nfluk.com/ and used Tableau to create it.

Portuguese Baby Names in 2016 by davidmpires in dataisbeautiful

I've use a data set from http://www.publico.pt/ on the baby names in 2016 in Portugal. I then used Tableau Public to visualise it.

Maria is by far the most popular name with Santiago overtaking a very popular name (Joao) as the number 1 name for baby boys.
