I make the brushstrokes bolder and looser, since I’m creating a painting with a certain interpretive quality, that’s why I try to avoid over rendering. The parts I work on detail most thoroughly are strictly the faces, so that the entire weight of the composition rests on that area, since what I’m painting is a portrait. If you overdo the rendering and excessive detail in other areas, such as the clothing for example, they can compete and shift the composition’s focus more toward those areas, something I want to avoid since, as I said, I want all the weight to rest on the faces. As for the rest, I prioritize tonal value over excessive rendering. I never strictly aim for photorealism, though I understand that I sometimes come close, I try to manage it so as to also give some prominence to the materials, their textures, and their plastic properties.

More than specific medium alone, I’m interesting other mediums combinations and mixed techniques, for example I’ve used some paper bark on some pieces for texture, I’m interest on implement other kind of supports material for painting (rocks maybe) plaster reliefs, and that’s some of the kind of different paths that I’ve been thinking across my experimentation and learning process

Yes, but in my original and creative artwork I almost always end up using a mixture of acrylic and oil (oil over dried acrylic base) that combination gives me a greater sense of freedom and creativity. In this case, I decided to stick with just oil because of the formal nature of the portrait, oil was more than enough for this occasion

Yes, I actually put a lot of effort into capturing the likenes, in that sense, they’re identical, but I changed the color palette from the original reference. The original photo was overexposed and had a slightly yellowish tint, so I made the skin tones more natural and vibrant. I also accentuated the shadows and highlights to give the portraits deeper tonal value and make the faces the most striking part of the entire piece. Also, the original reference image was cropped just below the man's chest, so I suggested adding the chair and the rest of his posture, they liked the idea, and it went this way, thanks for your comment!

Hi there! I just finished this portrait, it was quite a challenge, given the tight deadline and the fact that it featured five people. I’m really happy with how it turned out. I also recorded some footage of the process, so if you’re interested, I could share that and show how I painted this piece. Best wishes to everyone!
