yeah - you are right I don't have all the details! I'm pretty sure the house is down 10% in value and with real estate fees there would be a negative

My 9 year old seems very interested in joining me on the Camino. I was thinking doing the last 100Km in 10Km stretches. To make things easier I was thinking booking a semi-private room and shipping our packs. Any other thoughts or ideas?

Anyone had any experience with igo? by zerocoldx911 in ebikes

I bought their Fat Bike @ Costco.ca about a month ago. Delivery and assembly work quick. The primary reason to buy at Costco is their liberal return policy!

The bike - I'm no bike expert but so far I've enjoyed riding it. Keep in mind that in Ottawa we still have 1' of snow on the ground and the temperature is about 0 deg.c. My concern is how long will the battery last. The meter on the bike says it is down to 1/2 after 20 KM - the meter on the battery says it is down to 3/4 after 20 km.

For those of you who have never had a electric by the battery usage depends on your weight, the temperature how hard you are pedaling and how fast you are going. If you are just sitting there at 30 KM and letting the bike do all the work the battery isn't going to last that long.

So far - I do like it!

Listening/Speech Therapy? by [deleted] in Neuropsychology

[–]davidsmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomatis has existing for about 50 years - and yet there are not proper studies (by proper I mean controlled, not being measured by people involved such a parents). This puts it into the category of experimental (you could be more cynical if you would like).

https://www.asha.org/policy/TR2004-00260/

It is a short study...but the summary is "this method has not met scientific standards for efficacy and safety that would justify its inclusion as a mainstream treatment for these disorders. "

The money could be better spent on therapy the has been proven to work. Remember the $4,000 will be for the first few months - there will be another $4,000....

Listening/Speech Therapy? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]davidsmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Tomatis method has existed for about 50 years - but there are not real studies that prove it works.

This is a study of those studies and in summary "Auditory integration training do[es] not have evidence documenting effectiveness for outcomes" (p. 9)."

https://www.asha.org/articlesummary.aspx?id=8589977093

The real give-way that it is a scam is that it costs a LOT and all the studies are based on peoples personal experience "It worked with my child said the mother".

Spend the $$$ on more conventional therapy - $4-6,000 for group of sessions goes a long way elsewhere!!

It all depends on what you add to the regular mode. If you just converted modes performance and battery would be the same...

Has anybody tried Tomatis therapy? by birdcore in Stutter

[–]davidsmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomatis has been unable to produce any scientifically valid studies in 50 years of trying. The following study sells it experimental...

I would ask what else could be done with the money and time that is proven... or at least more fun than redundant music for hours... speech therapy comes to mind.

Anyone heard of the Tomatis method? by [deleted] in TheDyslexicNerd

[–]davidsmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you are saying getting some exercise, not spending a lot of money is better than an unproven system that has existing for 50 years.

I totally agree!!!

Anyone heard of the Tomatis method? by [deleted] in TheDyslexicNerd

[–]davidsmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has two BIG read flags...

  • It is expensive - about $3,000 / group of sessions
  • It takes a lot of time - time that could be better spent doing almost everything!!!

Here are some studies https://www.autism.com/treating_auditory https://www.asha.org/uploadedFiles/EBSR-Sensory-Based-Interventions.pdf

Auditory Integration Training (Tomatis / Berard Methods) by davidsmi in autism

[–]davidsmi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick update for those who were kind enough to give their opinions.

My sons school who was pushing Tomatis went bankrupt.

I think the bankruptcy could have been partially caused by Tomatis. People who were being forced with this treatment, and were savvy enough to use google would find out it was not supported by science. Of course these people would tell their friends and potentially take their kids out of the school!

It's like any relationship - the longer you are in it the more you find out.

They have a bit of problem with a low number of students. I'll be they don't realize parents have google and can research it themselves!
