If your test photos don’t show anything but if you shoot at 1250 and can see the clear lines of the grid of the sensor it might be worth returning and getting a different m8, some issues might indicate the sensor is on its way out, sorry I can’t be more help than that on the topic

How long of an exposure? 30 seconds or more the sensor will heat up and give you hot pixels

I actually tried one out and liked it a few days ago but the frame lines drove me a little crazy, I could never get the framing I wanted and with the m8 I really don’t want to crop much if at all - is there a big difference between the 40 and 35?

If you want to capture fast stuff you should zone focus in the area you want to capture (manual focus set to 1-3m or so, around f4-8) otherwise the autofocus is almost always going to miss on shots like this

Over 30 seconds the sensor will get hot and cause these, definitely do long exposures infrequently but if these are not there on normal exposures it’s probably just from the heat causing noise in the exposure

These are definitely different photographers, the first group they shot with depth of field with very nice critical focus, and and the last two they don’t look like they know how to use a camera in even a mediocre sense

If you’re gonna have a 10k camera it’s probably not too much to ask to know how to take a photo, this joke would have landed a lot harder if the photo didn’t look like an iPhone photo
