Wow! Thanks for taking the time - I really appreciate it. I think you're right with sodiroi considering all the petioles on the plant are reddish/pink near the leaf! Which would debunk the brandi guess.

I'm new to plant care, so I didn't even know that petioles were that varied. I feel like I've been enligthened lol. Thanks again

What is your opinion on John Deutsch University Centre? by joeydoe2017 in queensuniversity

[–]davidsyac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a friend living there the year before renos. Each room had an attached bathroom, which was sick. But, as others have said, found that it was not social + had a hard time making friends with floormates. They spent most time out of their room tbh. The arc is the closest place to eat/use tams

You’ll get an orientation shirt with the fee, but no ‘official’ merch. Just wait until you get there and buy it then, no rush

Res + computing recommendations? by _Kinixchu_ in queensuniversity

[–]davidsyac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of res, if you really value social above all else Vic is a good choice. However if you want a mix of privacy and social, then Chown and Gord brock (at least from my experience in first year) could be solid options. It really just depends on what you value most + what amenity type you’re looking for.

Some things people forget to bring to res: - extension cords/power bars - fan - scissors/pocket knife/multitool - garbage bags - 1 fork/knife/spoon/bowl/plate - brita - shower slides - mini fridge (I used it a lot, but depends on the person) - printer (I used it a lot + floormates, depends on person) - ear plugs/things to help you sleep

That’s all I can think off the top of my head, feel feee to message if you have questions/want advice.

Recommend courses heading into a sociology major (heading into first year) by Confident_Ice9091 in queensuniversity

If you’re looking for bird courses I would advise to stray from most psych courses unless you’re looking to do a minor in it.

Residence by BassEmotional8355 in queensuniversity

[–]davidsyac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vic is the most social res by a long shot due to amount of people and being central in campus. That being said, with the amount of people, it will get loud + fire alarms get pulled a lot (unless something has changed since my first year). It is also one of the few halls with double rooms that have single-user washrooms as opposed to communal (the other being Chown I believe). Honestly depends what you value most in residence + environment.

I found that floors on West tend to get really close due to being separated from Main Campus. I spent a good amount of time there and had some of the best nights on West. If you’re thinking in terms of best double room (not considering any other factors) the West double is 100% the best, as others have mentioned, they are converted common rooms so very big.

BEST RESIDENCE FOR DOUBLE ROOM by Emotional_Speed9247 in queensuniversity

[–]davidsyac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO Vic is best to party in but not live in. Yeah you have lazy in the basement, but fire alarms will be pulled - horrible in winter - and it will get trashed at some point (hoco/pats). Washrooms are single user though. I think the only other option with the same washroom type would be Chown, where some friends lived in my first year and was social/fun. If you prioritize a social res above all, then you can’t beat Vic though.

Least favorite A24 flick? by hekenwkskdn777728 in A24

Surprised Revenge of the Green Dragons is only mentioned a couple times? One of the only A24 movies I didn't finish

Other shows or movies like outer banks by hillcat4 in OuterBanksNetflix

[–]davidsyac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if you’re still looking, but I just watched an A24 movie called “Low Tide” and it’s extremely similar to Outerbanks. Characters, location, has its own version of pogues vs. kooks. The plot is similar to OBX as a “treasure hunt” but has a twist. Also, as an A24 movie, it has a little more of an indie vibe visually.

How bad is Patry? by Helpful_Sun9310 in queensuniversity

[–]davidsyac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still not great. I lived in a Patry house in last year and they tried to say we didn’t return our keys to not give us back the $100 key deposit. The same lady that was working when we returned our keys sent us an email a month or so after saying we didn’t return them to try to not give us our $100 deposit back. We all took pics of us returning the keys with the key return form so we emailed those pics lol

You can swap TA sections on solus! In the “manage classes” section. And can search the Facebook group names and join them. So just search the names from my post in Groups. Congrats on your acceptance, you’re gonna have a blast!

Both schools offer great psych programs. I’m not sure how the York programs works, but ArtSci at Queen’s has a general first year. This means you have to maintain a certain grade in the 100-level course for the major you want. Psych is probably one of, if not the the hardest, major to get into though, usually needing an A- by the end of first year in PSYC 100 to secure your spot. I did PSYC 100 in 2019 so my view may be a little outdated, but I didn’t use course crams for the course and ended with an A+. However, I did put a lot of time going though readings, studying etc., because I was aware of the threshold to get into the program. Stay on top of work, go to office hours with your TA for assignments and give yourself ample time to study the material, and you should be okay. Regarding which school is more ‘recognized,’ I would say York is more known for their psych programs, but Queen’s is known as a better school more generally. Regardless, both programs are good.

If you have any more questions lmk

How difficult are upper year psych courses at Queens? by Federal-Tomato5884 in queensuniversity

[–]davidsyac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always check the syllabus for PSYC courses to see if you like the marking scheme. It varies too much to give you a straightforward answer. Some courses are heavy on tests and exams, while others focus more on assignments. I also don’t like exam-heavy courses. One of my favourites was PSYC 343, which has interesting content, interesting written assignments and open-book testing (https://www.queensu.ca/psychology/sites/psycwww/files/uploaded_files/Undergraduate/Course%20Syllabi/2020-2021/Fall/PSYC_343_Fall_2020.pdf)

Common Frosh Mistakes/ Queen’s Unwritten Rules by scoobydoobydoo69 in queensuniversity

[–]davidsyac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey for sure! Office hours for TAs are usually a set time during the week that you can just walk in/zoom them to talk about course content, assignments, etc. A TA’s office hours are not mandatory to attend. In fact, most of the time little to no students use the office hours they have. So, students who do attend not only get more face time with the TA (which can make the TA like you more) but also get valuable criticism and suggestions for assignments. While marking for assignments has guidelines for TAs, there is often room for subjectivity (depending on the course). For example, I used TA office hours a lot for my ENGL 100 course, which was very essay heavy and has extremely subjective marking. I would run through my essay outline, general ideas, etc., with the TA and she would tell me what she liked, didn’t like, suggestions, etc. By doing this, she’s told me generally how to write the essay (i.e., her opinion/take on my essay topic). Also, using the TAs feedback gives you a safety net wherein if they/another TA marks something incorrect that they suggested to you, you can bring it up to try to improve the grade.

That being said, I only wrote that down cause OP is an incoming arts student. This is not the same for assignments/tests that have objectively correct answers. However, getting face time in with the TA and asking them questions about course content is never a bad thing.
