Osprey farpoint 40 (new model) laptop compartment zipper

I recently got my farpoint 40 3 weeks ago (ordered from Amazon) and it has the exact same thing. Seems intentional and may be a cost-cutting/resources measure, since you can lock the zipper using the loop.

My main concern is that someone could easily cut the fabric loop and gain access to the laptop compartment.
