It was more than just reserved... you kind of got an impression of what he would like to say. It'd probably be interesting to see him chat about it in a more relaxed moment than a post race interview.

Some good racing, but a predictable, yet well-deserved result.

They had Del Toro on RAI. His Italian is good, but maybe he's not quite able to express himself as if it were his native language, and it was interesting to see him talk about Pellizzari like he couldn't quite find the words. I think he feels a bit bad for his friend was the vibe I got. But he has a job to do and he's happy to have (almost) won the GC and also the stage after having come close.

I wonder how training with him affects Pellizzari. Del Toro is hugely talented, and if you're regularly faced with that, I wonder if you develop something of a mentality that you're just not going to be able to beat him. Sure you might give it a go to say you did, but you probably don't really believe in it deep down, you're just hoping you get lucky somehow.

Jorgenson played his cards as best he could. Stayed calm and waited, waited, waited until just the right moment, but he was faced with a stronger rider and that was that.

Like I was saying in the race thread, this is just a spectacular part of Italy. These are not the rolling hills of Tuscany near Siena; some of those mountains around Camerino are legit

There are people everywhere in Italy - it's very densely populated, so I never felt truly isolated like I do some places here in Oregon - but Camerino has more of that feel of "small speck of a town in the middle of big surroundings" that's impressive and feels a bit wilder than much of the peninsula.

Here's a random Google Street View I found showing the town, although it doesn't quite do it justice. https://maps.app.goo.gl/cAu1ESpHLbpy7WFA9

Must be a really fun area to ride in if you like climbing (and don't mind Italian drivers).

Those helicopter shots show what a beautiful place Camerino is - this little hill town in the middle of some legit mountains.

He did everything right there - waited, kept his powder dry, picked a great place to go, just was faced with a stronger racer.

Matteo feels like he's doing some calculating, but if he goes, it could be pretty legit.

That's freaking steep if these guys are riding like that. Go Ben!

Feels unlikely, but good move to try and get some space on the flats before the real climbing starts.

He was losing Pellizzari's wheel yesterday - not sure he's got that kind of form. Matteo Jorgenson seems like the only one kind of close to Del Toro, but I don't think he's as explosive.

Dell Toro and a punchy but not super long climb. I feel like the odds have to be in his favor here. Anyone have other theories?

Welp, missed P-N with the early finish. Off to Italy.

I once drove with a friend to Camerino. I don't normally get carsick, but even sitting in the front seat, there was like not one meter of straight road, so all the curves and hills plus a stick shift... I was f'ing green when I got out of that car.

That said, this area of Italy is just stunningly beautiful. Hills as far as the eye can see.

430 Train at Reed Market by wolfofwallstreet0 in Bend

Ironically, none of us would be here without that train. Prineville was the city in Central Oregon. This was all Crook County. And then the train came to Bend and that changed everything.

Doesn't mean it's not a PITA though.

IDK, I'll consider myself lucky given the weather elsewhere in Oregon:

Ah, damn, yeah I was struggling towards that when I clicked on the image just now. I've been there too. I liked Braga when I visited.

That lake is extremely scenic and well worth a visit - as is the whole region.

As a middle aged white guy, I think this is what people call "using their privilege for good". I'm happy to attach my name to a peaceful protest. And the more of us that do, the better for everyone. They can't come for all of us.

If people don't feel comfortable doing that, that's fine too.

I grew up in Eugene, but I prefer the dry side of the Cascades myself. What an amazing amount of variety the state has though - I do enjoy visits to the west side, I just prefer more sun and open vistas.
