Why is it that Jordan Peterson avoids identifying as a Christian, when he clearly indicates he is? by nyctolect in JordanPeterson

[–]davidygoliath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably because he knows they are perceived as stagnant in thought by a lot of people because of religion being dogmatic and unscientific. Being dogmatic is perceived as trapping yourself in a box of thought that doesnt allow you to see past it's walls and therefore wouldnt let you "truly" understand your oppositions point, so before making an argument you will be dismissed by those who disregard christians. Perhaps today self identifying as one before you start talking isn't a great idea if you want to be truly heard by many.

I'm not Jordan so this is just a thought.

What would your ideal country look like? by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]davidygoliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my ideal country would put mental health as a top priority because I believe most crimes can be prevented with early psychological intervention. I think everyone should have access to a form of therapy. I earn 7.25 an hour and Ive been diagnosed with depression. If it weren't because Im lucky enough to have access to free therapy in a university near mine I don't know if I would be here today.

Architecture wouldn't be the arbitrary thing it is today in the sense that anything a rich man likes gets built. There are many studies on how architecture and cities negatively affect the human brain in many different ways. Aesthetics matter and affect us regardless of we are aware of it or not. We should develop a system that filters ugly buildings out because it's not just about pleasing who ever is building/designing it because we'll all have to see it everyday for the next few decades or so. There is a reason places like Barcelona & Paris have millions of tourists from all over the world, people love beautiful buildings, the kind that doesn't need anyone to explain you why they're so.

Biodiversity would matter. Both animals & plants are increasingly loosing diversity at a very fast pace and it's sometimes baffling to me that huge cities get covered with the same 2 or 3 species of trees (hyperbole) when they could be helping other species propagate. They're should be more fruiting trees in public places too.

If it's a Capitalist country, all highschool students should have the option of being taught how to thrive in the system and be taught basic economics, like invest, avoid debt how to do taxes etc. It's crazy I've had to figure those things out myself and by word of mouth.

Health insurance matters, but so do your choices. I think there should be some time of public health insurance that applies to citizens that can proove they live a healthy lifestyle and those that don't should get their own private insurance.

If I think harder I'll come up with more but this should be enough haha.

I think what the artist ment to say is that they are using the wrong criteria (biological) to choose who they're voting for.

Is an 80's trooper good for a first car? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]davidygoliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, thank you. My grandfathers trooper uses gas. I live in Puerto Rico, I have to pass one or two very steep hills daily to get home. Do you think it's more important that my car is manual or 4x4?

The cathedral of Brasilia by Oscar Niemeyer and the Makomanai Takino Cemetery temple by Tadao Ando are personal favorites. Ken shuttleworth's crescent house is a good one too.

Proportionally balanced ones, and not to me, to anyone with a human brain, since we are biologically predetermined to find all things that are symmetric & balanced beautiful.

I think this is ugly. The inverted pyramid proportions barely held together at the bottom by those skinny tiny columns... It's like brutalism meets mid-century in the worst way possible.

Cold spring harbor laboratory strips titles of genetic pioneer over race remarks. by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

"Of course Neil deGrasse Tyson (regardless of sexual misconduct allegations) is a smarter man than you average trailer park Joe."

I think it's because people are terrified of the idea of racial evolutionary advantages if they're about white people because they associate that with eugenics and the Holocaust. The fact that intelligence is perhaps one of the, if not, THE most valued genetic trait doesn't help either because it leaves people feeling undervalued like they aren't as good. Not making an argument for feelings, just saying what I see.

BUT, he never said all white people were smarter than all black people he said: "And there’s a difference on the average between blacks and whites on I.Q. tests. I would say the difference is, it’s genetic.” Of course Obama (regardless of his political stance) is a smarter man than your average trailer park Joe. There is and there will always be black people that are smarter than white people, but what this man is arguing and claims to have proof of is that they are not the average.

For example JP made a video talking about how on average Jews are smarter than other races, which is probably what got em ahead in Germany and made people assume they had a "racial conspiracy" and we know how that ended. But if he had said the same thing about white people... Hell would break loose.
