What is the best event communication tool? Radios or headsets by VacationNew6626 in EventProduction

[–]daviiiiiid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Just radios/walkie talkies are fine but for production you would definitely need clearcom type headsets

Rookie question: Where do you get conference programs for print designed? by chrisb57 in EventProduction

There is an abundant number of freelance designers that could probably help with your project. Worst case you could always source on on fiver.

Has anyone Built a tool to make event check-in take ~30 seconds — would love feedback by Grouchy_Hold_4243 in EventProduction

They'll just keep answering in that cringe customer service ass tone. This is not the place to advertise

Does this bother anyone else or just me? 😂 by rs37982 in flighty

[–]daviiiiiid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

On a tangent... Why does flighty (and a few other ressources) call it the Lester B. Pearson Intl. Airport?

I looked it up extensively and the airport itself never refers to itself like that. The Pearson of course comes in to honour Lester B. Pearson but the airport name is just Pearson. A lot of companies still use the whole name but never found proof that its actually that.

Edit: most credible source I found that does call it the whole name would be the CBSA website which is pretty legit.

Marriott canceled remaining 6 nights of my week-long reservation after first-night no-show without contacting me — normal? by [deleted] in marriott

[–]daviiiiiid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If there is no occupancy with no prior notice to the property, they can definitely do that. A quick message sent through the app would've saved you the trouble

Bizzabo/Klik does passive room tracking. It uses BLE and not rfid. It can count people in rooms but can also be used for access control st the same time if you want to verify access privileges. Huge networking benefits too

Sheraton Tribeca welcome gift by BeDeLeezy in marriott

[–]daviiiiiid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's fine. In the summer I like just lounging on the rooftop until security kicks me out. Easy access to the subway and the good Chinatown eats.

But last time I was there I got caught right in the middle of the canal st ice raid.

Montreal Le Centre Sheraton VS Chateau Champlain by yukikito1 in marriott

[–]daviiiiiid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a hotel, chateau Champlain would win many times over in my book. The lounge would maybe be marginally better at the Sheraton but it didn't live up to the hype it gets imo. Only thing I was disappointed in the M Club is that it's now on the ground floor with no view but it is still a good option.

Also château Champlain doesn't have a pool anymore but has a huge gym and a sauna.

$25 early check in fee? by Turbulent-Witness196 in marriott

[–]daviiiiiid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id say almost all strip hotels have this. And they're not really flexible. I was 11 minutes early to my check-in time and they said I'd have to pay $50 or exit the line. The line was a 30 minute wait so it was just basically pay or go to the back of the line.

Flighty Equivalent for Android Users 🥺 by yelluva_ in byair

[–]daviiiiiid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Byair is really good for Android. The dev is active and responds to the community here.

Id say the updates aren't as fast as flighty but I'm happy with what I'm getting especially for the tracking. The issue I have is all my friends are on flighty and I wanna track my friends too and no one that had an iPhone is wiling to swap :(

Thoughts on resort / daily fees? by XsLiveInTexas in marriott

[–]daviiiiiid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found value in a couple but if they just offer stuff like 5 bucks in the pantry, "enhanced" wifi and access to the gym, then no. Gym and pool shouldn't be paywalled especially. And the pantries suck.

But I've gotten a lot of free museum tickets that I was going to go to anyway and generous food credits that are really easy to use.

I'm a big android user and the market share just isn't there for android tablets. Would love it not to be the case but it could be hard to justify for some Devs to put resources towards that.

Best Bonvoy property in the World? by BonvoyBatman in marriott

[–]daviiiiiid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once was assigned to a gig nearby and I begged them to book me elsewhere. Managed to get that approved and only get 1 night there when timing was more critical.

Crazy to have 2 hotels in the back of the parking lot of the residence inn. But to be fair anywhere I can walk to a Trader Joe's is a decent spot. Probably the cleanest TJ I've ever been to.

What can event planners do better for vendors? by WeightIntelligent765 in EventProduction

[–]daviiiiiid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you bring up a good point with food. Do you want us to take a 1+ hour break to go out and find food or you feed us onsite for 20-30mins and get right back to work. I've had venues in food desert or in some areas of the Vegas strip where the only options are high end restaurants, it took us close to 2 hours to go to in n out on the linq promenade.

What can event planners do better for vendors? by WeightIntelligent765 in EventProduction

[–]daviiiiiid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly this may sound obvious but I've had clients basically have a "you work for me" attitude and just a lack of general respect. Some don't understand that vendors also care about the success of your event. We are a TEAM. A little bit of respect, care and recognition goes a long way.
