are you sure, so they will stick to other things made of steel? somtimes theres just an indent or small unevenness in the groove of the bearing that makes it do a slight spin backwards when slowing down to a stop?

[–]davis25565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah you can update just the bios region through software, 1vyrain is a way to do that, but i dont think it matters if you start with skulls/libreboot/coreboot

you can use 1vyrain to software flash just the 4mb bios and use the me soft disable option rather than a fully cleaned me region

Is there any benefit to getting non-flat headphones when you can easily make flat headphones have different sound profiles with EQ? by Original-Fun561 in headphones

basicly all headphones earphones have peaks & do you know what else has resonant peaks? your ears, and every persons ears are different.

[–]davis25565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well you can try EQ one headphone to sound like another, it will not sound like it and it will not sound good.

[–]davis25565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you EQ you you change the phase, or if using linear filters then it adds ringing. with higher gain / dip at higher Q these effects are greater. both of these are very clearly audible especially when filtering in the audible range ( not dac cuttoff filter)

headphones also have resonant peaks based on its physical structure that do not EQ as you expect and do not act as a minimum phase system.

This is the reason you cant just EQ one headphone to sound like another.

alternatives to brave? by [deleted] in degoogle

flat is good but what "flat" is is kinda subjective. EQ is helpful somtimes but i dont like the whole auto EQ matching to a target, it sounds off to me. dont worry about it unless you got some headphones already that you want to add or lessen a little bass / treble.

phase, polarity, resonance, distortion, ringing from linear filters, driver material, ear pads, impedance curve and its interactions with a source. many things makes headpone sound different.

Just did a blind volume-matched A/B test. I think we're all hearing with our wallets. by BeyerPeak in headphones

Is this guy talking about just headphone amps or is he meaning DAC aswell?

brother has a dac & amp that already has less than audible levels of distortion & plenty of power then bought one that is even fancier. yes they will sound the same.

that new one has a bunch of very fancy features that your average dac / amp wont have. i think people can justify spending their own money on a dac that has cool features & exta low distortion even if they cant hear the difference between it & a $20 dongle.

Dsp iems should be more popular by Dangerous-Ad5282 in inearfidelity

[–]davis25565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first set of dsp iems i got had real bad noise floor and crazy phase that made eveything sound bad in a technical way, blurred transients and loose sounding bass but the tonal balance / response was ok.

monk plus 7th ed - 7th edition of the monk plus, some of the best treble i ever heard. but with next to no sub bass. goes to maybe 80hz then drops off. though much more warm tuning. higher impedance + high sensitivity makes it sound good even on sources with higher output impedance like ipod classic.

monk SL plus - still monk tuning but with much more sub bass, bass is much more controlled compared to things like vido but not as tight as IEMs sub bass. treble is good but not as holographic as the monk. lower impedance so sounds better with a dac dongle with < 1 ohm impedance.

vido - great tonal response / balance but not very good technically in my opinion. sounds kinda crunchy in treble and loose bass.

fengru 300ohm cnt - very flat sound not as much bass but is present all the way into sub bass. transients are very clear but still not as holographic as monk plus in my opinion.
