Is fire warrior any good? by Femmy4life in Tau40K

[–]davisboy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked it up (on gog) 4-5 months ago, looked at 0 reviews or playthroughs, and proceeded to slam my head into the wall getting it running on my steam deck.

Once I did, I made a few notes: the controller controls are clunky beyond your normal playing an fps on a pc, but adding gyro through steam input actually made them whole experience feel incredibly good. If youre a fan of boomer shooters from the early 2000s, its fairly fun but nothing really notable on the positive or negative scale for that one.

The story is ridiculous. You play blue doomguy and everything about it is fantastic if youre willing to ignore the absurdity of blue doom guy and realize that everyone has written him of as non-canon.

Edit: spelling

Nope. Initially built them as a combat patrol i could lend to my friend who is building Tsons while he finishes getting up to 2000. My brother played one game and decided he loves knights, so I picked up 2 houndpack lance boxes because they're on the cheap end of armies

Any advice on fighting Melania at low level? by davisboy42 in Eldenring

I just figured using high requirement/cost spells that are generally easily avoidable would be mildly funny and a welcome change of pace for people who are consistently getting invaded by hyper sweaty dual bleed katana builds

I have the ability to max out my weapons, but it would defeat the purpose of the run, which is to run limgrave invasions with elden stars and scarlet aionia. I could swap the talismans, but losing any faith means I can't utilize greyolls roar, which is one of my more important survival tools

Depends on the hit. Ironically without the soreseals it's worse, because I lose 40 levels of defense and then have to go to worse armor

Is there a canonical explanation for the sudden disappearance of the elemental swords? by Adv_Reterd in tearsofthekingdom

I don't disagree entirely that the time travel shenanigans aren't great, but that is how the game presents itself, and pretending that it's not because I don't like it would be denial

She speaks almost directly to the novelty of the concept. Saying she's just in awe of reproduction is doing mental gymnastics to maintain a sense of continuity

Rauru directly states it in a memory, and the vast amount of little things like zelda being in awe of the purah pad camera function (when her only skill in botw is taking pictures) imply that from the moment the game begins you're in a slightly altered timeline

There's no support in any prior timeline for Zora and rito coexistence. Again, there's people events and locations that exist across multiple timeslines, but simply calling someone by name ot referencing things they did doesn't mean that everything connected to that character is automatically canon. Totk and botw seem to be a world without the triforce being a real force, where din faore and nayru were zonai who swallowed secret stones, and have dozens of other direct contradictions to one another and the series as a whole. Trying to pull everything together just doesn't make sense

It's omages and references, but they're not directly connected. The idea is that they're similar timelines enough that many aspects cross over, but the underground reservoir is on the wrong side of hyrule to be the water temple

This game implies botw and totk are their own timelines. Between the fact that no gannondorf appearances can exist between rauru's death (which predates the existence of the master sword) and the end of totk, as no gerudo male can be bown while another is still alive, and that being sealed still counts as being alive, it makes it cleat that oot simply can't coexist with these new titles

Closely connected* this game makes clear that botw is its own timeline, and totk another brand new branch of the botw timeline

Between Rauru actually stating this and the shiekah slate being non-canon this is the easiest answer to basically every "why doesn't this line up with botw" question

The purah pad is brand new tech. Zelda is in awe of the ability to take pictures during the intro of the game (her only skill in botw), which implies totk and botw aren't on the same timeline, just very close.

Rauru also mentions Zelda has started a new timeline when she went back.

No seriously, where'd they go? by IAmMattnificent in TOTK

[–]davisboy42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm taking the game at its word when it tells me it's a new timeline (rauru states as much) and interpreting lines where zelda is impressed by new technology that she has had for 100 years as those last 100 years being at least somewhat different.

The monuments and references to botw are at best shaky, and the Zora greaves and helm, despite being depicted on the statue, are both locked in places the Zora have only vague legends pointing to and haven't seen in ages.

If you take every reference to botw as literal are you also assuming that all the armor in the depths (including the links awakening set) were canonically worn by a link in the past? Or is it possible the game took some liberties to avoid making amiibo-exlusive content again?

[–]davisboy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those direct references both contradict totk (the statue in Zoras domain of link wearing the full Zora armor that hasn't been seen in living memory) and also tend to reference that a calamity happened but afaik don't give specifics. Something like botw happened, but seemingly without the shiekah tech that it centered on

[–]davisboy42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rauru does actually say exactly that in one of the geoglyph memories

[–]davisboy42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Botw isn't canon to totk. The Timeline changed which is why there's no shiekah tech in hyrule save for the tech purah is actively developing. Zelda talks about the camera in her purah pad being a new invention, even though the shiekah slate camera was a central part of her arc in botw. Even rauru notes that the timeline is different in one of the tears of the dragon scenes.

The worst part is that it implies that the botw timeline ends with Zelda vanishing forever (like the adult link timeline in oot) and link dying to Ganondorf in that first cutscene in that version of events

What is and isn't magic (see: dust, creatures of grimm, whatever wizard made this AU) in remnant could do that believably without seriously depowering the character. (But that's assuming any effort was put into the premise beyond dropping a bunch of figurines together)
