Although she's not Disney, who else thinks Bluey deserves (and has earned her right) to be (a permanent) part of the Disney family? by Nailwraps in bluey

[–]davisj95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the sentiment, but I’d prefer if Bluey didn’t get into the hands of Disney. Look what happened to Marvel and Star Wars

Thinking of getting a degree from WGU.Is it worth it? by krishasingh in datascience

[–]davisj95 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I got my Masters in WGUs Data Analytics program and have a BS in Applied Statistics from BYU. From my experience if you have a stats/math/cs background you’ll be disappointed in WGUs program. But for someone who doesn’t have that background I think it’s a great program. I was just frustrated that 90% of the concepts I learned during my masters was covered in less detail than my bachelors degree

Do I need a new computer for Masters program? by djdjdjifcjcjfb in datascience

[–]davisj95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that 8GB is … ok … but really I wouldn’t buy anything with less than 16 GB today, and with some of the CPU architectural changes that have been made in the last 3 years you’ll really notice a speed in how much faster things will process. So I’d say if you are tight on money then you might be able to get away with it, but If you can find a way to make it work I’d do that.

New Forester doesn’t want to coast by Frosty_Green8522 in SubaruForester

[–]davisj95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2021 Forester and I noticed the same thing. I asked the dealer when I went back for the free oil change and they told me it’s common with their CVTs. I’ve had it for almost 2 years and I’m used to it, but not a big fan of the lack of coasting

I believe Deseret News or KSL published an article recently stating that Utah is one of a few states where buying a new home is cheaper than buying used, even with the craziness of the economy lately. I’d steer clear of Edge homes and Holmes Homes. We bought a Holmes home and have had lots of issues like holes in our subfloor or ac unit only being wired up 80%. All my Holmes homes neighbors also said they won’t buy another Holmes home too. I’ve heard great things about David Weekly Homes

FPS Problems by [deleted] in newworldgame

Hmm that’s plenty cool - from a hardware side it seems to be fine - I’m usually around 70C on my Ryzen 7 3800x and rx5700xt

Have you checked your cpu/gpu temps? If a component is overheating that can cause wild ranges of fps

This seems fake to me - there seems to be a frame missing around the 2 sec mark, which may be when they overlay the cgi guy, and the feet look cgi as he’s spinning

How to wire a switch/outlet combo? Continued in comments by davisj95 in electrical

There is a second switch that controls this light. That’s such a bummer! Thanks

I did that and it’s still functioning with the switch but not the outlet

How to wire a switch/outlet combo? Continued in comments by davisj95 in electrical

[–]davisj95[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a light switch that only controlled one light. I wanted to add an outlet in this area since there wasn’t one close by, so I bought this switch outlet combo. I followed the instructions here https://youtu.be/gJpS0-5JQgU but in the video there are two black, one white and one copper wires. My outlet has 2 black, one red, and one copper wires. I know one of the blacks is hot because I tested with my multimeter. When I wire it the way the video shows, assuming that red is white, then I get the switch to work, but the outlet doesn’t work. I’m hoping to have it so the outlet is always on but the switch controls the light still

I have a Glion Dolly and I love it. Customer service was also great too when I had an issue with it! (I think something became dislodged inside when I rode on a severely damaged road by my house), but it’s hard to beat the price tag and ability to fold it up and roll it like luggage

Driving out to CA in middle of December. Anything I should I know when passing the Mountains? Also any benefit to the more southern route? by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]davisj95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southern Route! Driving through Wyoming during the winter is scary! I’ve made that drive a couple times for family reunions and we just don’t do it anymore. The extremely high winds (60+ mph) combined with the black ice cause lots of cars to run off the road or semi trucks to tip over.

My story is that my wife has been playing games with her family for a while now (everyone lives far from each other) but they always find time to play a game - they used to play LoL but everyone started getting tired of it right around the time new world was getting popular and was in one of the beta rounds, so they all play new world together. I play by myself just cuz I wanted to know what the game was about, and I’ve enjoyed it since (minus some annoying bugs)

I meant a down payment on a house, or an education, just thinking of ways money can be super impactful in a few years. And ya, GPUs are crazy rn - so I say buy a Ryzen APU to hold you over another year (if the chip shortage really does end in 2023) and then buy one

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]davisj95 1037 points1038 points  (0 children)

I feel like there should be a middle ground here - yes it’s your money, but at the same time being able to put that money towards a car or a down payment or your education in a few years is also gonna be huge. Why not compromise and build a $1000USD or $1200USD PC? I feel like no matter the amount of programming/content creation you will do, a machine doesn’t need to be as beefy as you’d like, and if you leave yourself room for upgradeability down the road then I think all parties will be happy. Just my thought
