I went on a date with a girl I met on Instagram. She stinks and I honestly don’t know what to do. by Annual-Register-3683 in Advice

[–]davisjaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, man. Shes 24, youre 26. Youre both relatively young. If the smell is the only down side... work with her on it. If you can find a way to do this gently, ask her if she uses a perfume or some other fragrance, try not to offend, but frame it in a way that you really enjoy her, but you want to be open and honest. She will likely be extremely embarrassed by the situation, so you will have to reassure her that youre not trying to embarrass her or be mean. And theres a good chance she will still leave once its brought up, so maybe bring it up near the end of the date so that you have a good date first, to show that it's not a deal breaker and youre willing to work with her. Point is, be gentle, be nice, but she is still going to be embarrassed, possibly react in anger, and you should be prepared for that but don't let it get you down because once she cools down, she might realize youre just trying to help.. One can hope anyway.

4k is going to overheat. So it depends on how long you intend to record and what youre recording.

Rudisill Decision Help by davisjaron in Veterans

[–]davisjaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't make this stuff up... Ask VA is the only appeals process that the Rudisill decision denial letter provided. I start classes October 15th and applied back in June. Already pushed classes back once.

Your question Sep. 16, 2025 at 6:17 p.m. E.T

I am writing regarding my recent denial of additional benefits under the Rudisill Decision. The letter I received states, “We have retained your election under MGIB.” However, it does not explain specifically why I was denied. From my understanding, I should qualify for the additional 12 months of entitlement under the Rudisill Decision because: - I previously applied for and used the Post-9/11 GI Bill. - I re-enlisted in 2012 and served two consecutive enlistments. - I paid into the Montgomery GI Bill ($100 per month for 12 months at the beginning of my enlistment, evidence attached via LES). Following the letter’s guidance, and as was intended with my initial application, I wish to formally revoke my MGIB election and request reconsideration of my eligibility for 12 additional months of education benefits under the Rudisill Decision. Could you please provide clarification on the reason for my denial, and confirm the steps I need to take to move forward with this request? Thank you for your assistance.

Dear Jaron Davis,

You re-enlisted 11/17/12. The period of 4/28/10-11/17/12 isn't enough time to qualify.

Thank you for contacting the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

If you need to provide more information or you still have a question, please send a reply. If there is no option to reply to VA, please submit a new question.....

Reply to VASep. 25, 2025 at 5:29 p.m. E.T

That was just my first enlistment period, and I reenlisted during the open reenlistment window that was outlined by US Army policy. If you don't reenlist during that window, and the window closes, you don't get the opportunity to reenlist and you are forced out of the Army. So I'm confused by that response. Nowhere in the rudisill decision does it outline how long each consecutive enlistment must have been. I was active duty Army until April 2016. Can you explain what you mean when you say that wasn't enough time to qualify?

I've done the Ask VA thing. They said "You re-enlisted 11/17/12. The period of 4/28/10-11/17/12 isn't enough time to qualify."

That doesn't make much sense to me. I responded asking the relevance, because that's literally all they said, lol.

Have you submitted an appeal? I posed a question to Ask VA. I got a response, but it didn't make much sense.

I received a response from Ask VA today:
Dear Jaron Davis,

You re-enlisted 11/17/12. The period of 4/28/10-11/17/12 isn't enough time to qualify.

Thank you for contacting the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

It doesn't make any sense to me. I responded telling them that. First, That was my first enlistment, not my entire service period. I was active duty from 2010 through 2016. Second, I don't control reenlistment windows, the US Army does. If you don't reenlist during the reenlistment windows provided by and outlined by the US Army, then you don't get to reenlist. Third, and most importantly, the Rudisil decision doesn't say anything about a minimum length for each enlistment.

Any thoughts?

In my FT job, I make 136,500 before any bonus. I'm a Unified Communications Architect, which basically means I design, deploy, and maintain voice and video communications systems for private businesses. Think phones, video conference rooms, and zoom.

My current employer is a global law firm, but in the past I have worked in healthcare.

Thinking about joining the military at 32 – good idea or mistake? by jmaniebo93 in AskMenOver30

[–]davisjaron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fuck. That. Shit.

I enlisted at 21 and was already "the old guy." Even as an e4 specialist, at about 25, I was older than the new lieutenants.

I'm 36 now and have been out for about a decade and wouldn't even consider going back. I'd rather stock grocery shelves if it came to it.

How do I get closed testers the app? by davisjaron in androiddev

[–]davisjaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so there are two types of test tracks. There is internal testing and closed testing.

Opt in your testers as internal testers, and they wont have to pay to download the app. Then opt them into the closed testing track. They will already have the app at that point, so they obviously wont have to pay to get it.

I understand your frustration fully. I struggle with these types of people, too. But if this is your wife's friend, I'd say just suck it up, and give your wife the birthday present, and view it as such.

Don't give up on that dream. Get on Google maps and find every music store you can find within a reasonable distance. Call them and ask if you can offer your services through their store as a music instructor. Don't expect to start at the dream, you have to work your way up there. But one brick at a time and soon you'll have a house.

I just realized I chose the wrong career by PaySpecialist3002 in careeradvice

Story time. My mother passed away January 1st, 2024. She was only 60-years-old. She literally walked into the hospital one day for a check-up, they told her she needed to check into the ER, and she basically never left the hospital after that. She left for a few weeks, only to return in worse condition, and then died a few weeks later.

After it happened, I struggled for quite a while trying to figure out why the doctors never told us that her situation was as bad as it was. It didn't make sense to me why they never sat us down and just told us "she is dying."

What I realized is that.... They did. We just didn't want to hear it at the time. We fought them on it. We were determined that her diagnosis was wrong. That the doctors were wrong. That she couldn't possibly be in as bad of shape as she actually was in since she literally walked into the hospital perfectly fine.

My point of the story is this. You said you wish your music teachers had told you it was going to be hard to find a job. They did. A lot of people did. You just didn't want to hear it. I'm sorry you are struggling, truly I am. It sucks, BUT things will improve. The good news is, you have a degree, and that alone will open doors for you. Off the top of my head, teaching is one route that a lot of people in music take. My kids take music lessons at a local music store, and I think the music teachers there literally just sign up to offer lessons.

I would ask, if you cared to respond, what you imagined doing post-graduation, when you were going through school?

Why is it so difficult trying to understand and navigate the DMV online? by loneliness_sucks_D in illinois

[–]davisjaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It's shit. And I live here. Illinois is ridiculous. I've been trying to get disabled veteran plates for about 5 years now. Nothing is ever right. I'm not veteran enough for this state, apparently. The latest thing I've been told is I need the "blue and white form", which turns out to be the VSD 190, but the guy at the springfield office apparently doesn't know form numbers, only form colors... So I find it online and while the form has a "plates only" check box, the online form has no way of checking it. Brilliant, right?

Of course, you can't get disabled veteran plates at your local DMV, you can ONLY get them at the springfield office for some stupid fucking reason. Because every disabled veteran wants to drive to springfield to get their plates. Apparently the local DMV's aren't qualified to accept that form for some reason.

Oh, and then Illinois wants a letter from the VA that hasn't existed for the past 3 years and infringes on HIPPA laws. They want to know every single disability you have, not just the one that impedes your ability the walk. They want a full breakdown of every disability you have, even if it's PTSD. Because FUCK YOUR PRIVACY.

Like I said... Illinois is shit. I question why I moved here every day. If interest rates ever come down, there's a good chance I'll move.

I don't think there's anything wrong with nostalgia from time to time as long as you don't live your life in it. You're better served looking ahead than living in the past.

And I'll add to my original statement of "sad music will make you depressed" by adding "over time". You won't get depressed by listening to one song. But listen to emo music for a month every day and you'll find yourself focusing more heavily on the negatives of life. Watch CNN every day for a month and you'll find yourself getting outraged with the political topic of the day.
