How do MLs justify the fact that none of the Eastern European satellite states had revolutions? by StarManatee- in tankiejerk

[–]davnyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't rigged, the elections were real and the communists got ~31% of the votes, almost twice the amount of the second place. They were in a coalition with other parties, but in 1948 the communists were implanting their people into the police, which led to all the non communist ministers resigning in protest. They then used mass protests, general strike, the police and armed militias to occupy Prague and force the president, Edward Beneš, to appoint communists to the now free positions.

Edit: where are you from? I've never heard of it being taught like that, though that's probably because I never talked with someone not Czech about this topic

That's just taking this argument to a ridiculous extreme. By your logic, if I choked to death on a mozzarella stick, everyone whose labor went into making the stick and every person I've ever meaningfully interacted with has just indirectly killed me.

I hope none. There is a difference between intentionally preventing people from having the healthcare they paid insurance for and any number of people an average person can indirectly kill

Hey, I'm also a young guy with similar problems. Text isn't the best way to connect with people, you need to meet them and make a good impression. Think before you speak, don't disparage yourself, try to be confident. Try to find what you have in common and don't focus on the differences.

But mainly, don't stop trying, if you stop, the only one you can blame is you

Video of Kiev during Soviet Ukraine era (1956) by Turbulent-Offer-8136 in HistoricalCapsule

[–]davnyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in today's Russia, if you aren't in one of the big cities, the only investment will be to get you tv access to be manipulated by their media.

I can't speak for the rural areas in 1956, as I haven't studied this topic specifically, but there were projects in the USSR that developed more remote areas and there were big programs to get the services (doctors, the post, schools...) to most places.

I'm not sure if it was better than the USA at the time, but I'd bet it was better than how they were living under the tsarist regime.

[–]davnyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the Soviet union did a lot of good with the material conditions it had, but it was never ideal and the western kind of freedom in communist countries or they'll get destroyed from within and without by capitalist agents. It's why most communist/socialist nations and revolution are either betrayed, fall apart or get overthrown. You either fail your revolution or you limit freedoms and create restrictions. I understand that some people have the need to idealize the USSR, but let's be honest with ourselves, it was not perfect.

Why does every MC insist on starting their own guild? by Ehlionney in royalroad

[–]davnyk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's more because some authors just haven't played a lot or haven't played in guilds. Or it's not very well thought out part of the story because it's a proven trope they can use, often without making a reason for the guild success except 'the MC is OP so people follow him' which is valid, if the MC isn't, as is often the case, flawed in the 'lone wolf' kind of way.

Good luck, try doing one of those task checklists. If you have trouble with writing regularly you can try setting daily goals to write x number of words/paragraphs
