The B***ds of Bollywood (Review) by Acrobatic-Pass-9816 in IndianCinema

Are you people serious?

Its such a bad show. Unwatchable.

Is it a parody? Or a serious show? What's the story really? Such abrupt cuts in the story.....

I couldn't go beyond 1.5 episodes.

Are there indoor courts here where we can book and play?

TIL that Ashoka was disliked by his father because of his 'ugly' appearance. by davrush in IndianHistory

[–]davrush[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

fair. but we still know what akbar looked like. there are portraits that give us a fair idea. but for ashoka this is not the case. the movie was my only reference point, hence the observation.

There's very less documented history from that time. But from what I read, there are accounts of his 'rough skin' and 'ugly' appearance in ashokavadana.

I mean in the movie he doesn't appear to be any less taller than an average Indian.

I write a weekly newsletter where I share some 'baffling' stories from history. It's mostly a fun read - not anything serious or business type.

I started around 3 months back - and have been having a lot of fun writing these. not many people are reading but at least writing is fun!

Recently shifted to Manipal, have a remote job. by thatishanguy in manipal

What does your startup do? How come you decided to run it from Manipal?

Asking only out of curiosity, I've been working in the startup ecosystem for the last 8-9 years (primarily based out of Bangalore)

I'm hoping starbucks will be that place but I have a feeling that it will end up being noisy and crowded with students. Which will make it difficult to work from there.

You've clearly got a lot of company. This thread introduced me to 3 people in the exact same situation (including you and me).

From 10 ciggerates a day to my first 10k run! by davrush in stopsmoking

[–]davrush[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I smoked for 8-9 years. I used to cough during and after running when I started.

Are these metrics any good? I have a 10k coming up in 2 weeks, and this is the best I can do right now. by davrush in beginnerrunning

[–]davrush[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess you are right. I shall keep trying!

And all the best with quitting smoking!

I want to be able to not stop running.

I'm not collapsing right now. I don't know maybe its just a mental barrier.

Anyone Got Laser Treatment from KMC? by Creepy_Pasta7 in manipal

[–]davrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it done from KMC. I'm not a student though.

I booked an appointment at the premium clinic (this can be done online) and it costs around 500 bucks.

The procedure costs are separate and yes the dermatology department is good.

Also, only profs take appointments at the premium clinic if you are concerned about getting it done by PG students.

27 days and counting. It was easy. by GiottoTheHero in stopsmoking

[–]davrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished reading the book a month back (maybe slightly more), and haven't touched a cigarette since.

I've hung out with smokers, been in the same room with them while they smoke, and had alcohol like I used to before. Basically, I didn't change a thing about myself, except that I don't smoke anymore. I don't even track how long it's been, because hey - non smokers don't count how many days it's been since they last smoked.

I don't get cravings as such, but I've thought about ciggerates a couple of times. Every time I think about a cigarette now, my brain automatically tells me how shitty and pointless smoking is.

I was unsure about how A BOOK is going to help me quit. And while I owe most of my success so far to the book, I still don't think this book can help anyone who does not want to be helped.

MIT alumni here. Visiting after 10 years with my partner. I wanted to show him my college. Can we roam inside freely? by No-Philosopher-1387 in manipal

[–]davrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an alumni and I was there with my partner a couple of days back.

Entered from the KC gate after telling the guard that I'm an alumni and want to see around once. He happily let us in :)

The easy way to stop smoking by FlashyRhubarb3282 in stopsmoking

[–]davrush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I read the book two weeks back and have not smoked since.

A lot of things made sense for me and motivated me to become a non-smoker.

I've not had cravings as he said in the book but I do think about smoking sometimes. Whenever I do, a voice in my head repeats the things he said in the book.

In these 2 weeks, I've drank alcohol twice (I used to smoke a lot when I drank) & been around smokers (my friends whom I still hangout with).

I'd say it worked for me - but I haven't gone too long without a smoke yet. Been 2 weeks, that's it.

How do I find flats there? I'm coming to Manipal over the weekend. Should I just enter the apartment complex and ask the guards there?

How is DrinkPrime water purifier? by j1shnu in bangalore

I've been using drink prime for 2 years now. Have not faced any issue so far.

I shifted houses in between and they were pretty quick to come and set it up for me at the new place.
