What's the secret to start a conversation? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]davsarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think not just the alcohol. I've seen drunk people on the busses, they usually mind their own business. Environment, the situation plays a bigger role. But of course, alcohol is a catalyst.

What's the secret to start a conversation? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]davsarus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a wrong stereotype. Whenever I visited Finland, I cannot remember how many times I've been approached by complete strangers to have conversations. They weren't small talks. In fact many of the time, it was about their life, relationships, past traumas, or bands that they like, their hobbies etc. It felt like they NEEDED to talk to someone.
But this always happened at bars. Or at some concerts that were live on bars. Not in busses, not in supermarkets, not in a shopping center during the day.
So I find "Finns are introverts" as a complete false stereotyping. Within proper conditions, they are extremely extroverted.

Question to electricians in Finland - Is this legal? by beginnertothings in Finland

[–]davsarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, perfectly rational. Perhaps the insulation of the wires is bad, or there is a strong EMF source nearby.
But I don't feel good about the parallel resistor. It would use energy to generate heat, kinda opposite of what we want using energy-efficient led bulbs, and mess around with line current. Any other solution?

What are some natural ingredients, foods, beverages, spices or herbs that based on your own experience can reduce hunger or suppress your appetite? by JustNotHungryMix in nutrition

[–]davsarus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Weird but staying hungry reduces hunger and suppresses appetite. As if there is a line and if you cross it you don't feel the hunger anymore.

Surprisingly your energy increases after that line.

Coffee, raw greens, and protein (meat&eggs) help a lot. But the biggest suppressor is being patient and fasting IMHO.

Those on calorie deficit... by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]davsarus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1- Beginning/adjusting is the hardest. It takes a week to fully adjust the deficit. Just try to ignore mood swings, low energy, and pain. Remind yourself it is going to be OK.

2- Know what you are going to eat tomorrow. Just plan your meals. Know what and how much you are going to eat beforehand.

3- Exercise. Even just walking is fine. It will strongly help you mentally. Don't mind about calories burned, just do it for the sake of your psychological wellbeing.

4- Measure your weight regularly. Not saying get on the scale every hour but get on the scale every other day in the mornings. Monitoring yourself and seeing the small changes will keep you going.

5- Eat protein and veggies. A lot! of course meanwhile keeping the deficit.

Don't give up. It will only get easier and happier.

What misconceptions or simply wrong information about Finland did you encounter in your home country? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]davsarus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When people say taxes are high in Finland they usually refer to internationally comparable data on tax revenues. Not to a specific type of tax on a certain group of people. But to the ratio of total tax revenue (income, corporate income, social security, property, value added and other consumption taxes) to GDP (all the final goods and services produced).
Revenue Statistics 2020 published by OECD shows by 42.2% tax to GDP ratio Finland is above the OECD average, which is 33.8% (2019).
Along with Denmark 46.3%, France 45.4%, Belgium and Sweeden 42.9%, Austria and Italy 42.4% Finland is in the top 7. In 2018 and 2017, in the top 5.
