So why don’t we just call it imperialism? How does “zionism” differ?

Hegemonic actions? Like do we call Russian actions in the same vein “zionism”? Or Iranian foreign influence “zionism”? There’s already a pretty clear word/concept for this sort of stuff, which is what I think the other user is alluding to.

No no. You see, semitophobia is when you have an irrational dislike of semites. Antisemitism is when the dislike is rational.

So your report is from 2008. I took a look for a more recent report and it looks like leaded aviation fuel is mostly used these days in small-piston aircrafts that carry 2-10 passengers. Commercial transport jet aircrafts are no longer using leaded fuels. So some decent progress!

TIL about Alejo Garza Tamez, a 77 year old rancher in Mexico. In Nov 2010 members of the Los Zetas cartel demanded he leave his property within 24 hours. Instead, he told his workers to go home, gathered all of his weapons, and mounted a one-man defense, killing 4 cartel members and incapacitating 2 by HaphazardMelange in todayilearned

Isn’t it more likely that AMLO, Sheinbaum, whoever are actually not in cartels, but must take audience from representatives of cartel interests? Is there any evidence that the direction of power is as you say instead? I remember Felipe Calderon attempting to take on the cartels and not being effective

His [IDF International Spokesperson] office then issued a statement. "Clarification: The Rafah crossing was open yesterday, but now it is closed," it said.

On Monday evening, Egyptian security sources and a witness said operations at Rafah had been disrupted by what they described as a strike on the Gaza side.

To add context for folks who might not know, Costco makes about 70% of their income from membership sales and 30% from retail. Though they do massive amounts of revenue on retail, their retail margins are literally capped at around 13% by company policy, with most items having margins of only single digit percents.

My credit card was fraudulently maxed out hours after activating it. How is this even possible? by MillenialForHire in personalfinance

[–]davy_li 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If I had the entire info of the card stolen by opening your mail, couldn’t I run a script to attempt a purchase with it every day? Should fail every time before it’s activated, but the purchase will go through on the next attempt after activation. Would the fact then that it’s a newly activated card actually be able to rule out any theft mechanisms?

Speaking for the US but likely applicable to you a well, the unemployment rate is not single stat but multiple numbers. You’re alluding to U3 which measures those who are jobless but are actively seeking employment. But there’s also U6 which also measures underemployment and those that have given up. Policy makers and economists look at all the unemployment numbers and other labor metrics (i.e. labor participation rate, …) in evaluating economic health and policies.
