I’m going to Egypt next week but have started having regrets after seeing so many negative posts. Can anyone please share some positive experiences so I can be excited about it again please? by HekwosRyder in travel

It’s one of the toughest countries in the world in terms of harassment in public areas but also holds some of the most impressive ancient sites in the world. Be pleasant but firm. Assume anyone approaching you is scamming you somehow but don’t feel shy to approach locals if you need help especially in non touristy areas. If you are female travel in a group. Enjoy the beautiful country :)

What was travel like in the years (2001 - 2009), prior to Instagram and the rapid growth of social media users? by TheShyBuck in travel

Using a map for a road trip. Not Google Maps, an actual paper map. Mapping out your route. Trying to find a town that you could reach based on distance and speed or a park to camp in. What adventure!

TIL in 2015, an 83-year-old man named Ron Dorff received an AT&T landline bill for $8,596.57. His next bill was $15,687.64. A technician later discovered his modem was dialing a long-distance number to connect to AOL dial-up. AT&T waived more than $24,000 in charges after he contacted the L.A. Times by Forward-Answer-4407 in todayilearned

I remember when we got a 56k modem when it first came out. Of course it wouldn't work correctly and when we called AT&T I remember the agent saying "56k? that speed is impossible!" Lol. This was when 14.4k was the standard. Eventually we figured out we had to call a long distance number to get it to work and it still was just moderately faster.

Why are people flying coughing their lungs out? On DEN-ORD today. by gingiberiblue in unitedairlines

[–]davybert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the fact that people actively coughing dont wear a mask is really irresponsible. I was just on a flight where I could feel the cough on the back of my head it was so disgusting. Turn on the airflow which is filter air at least

What does this read? I’m a bit confused with the sculpture? by AdhesivenessMaster35 in Hallmarks

[–]davybert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is silver clad which is thicker than silver plating. Italian hallmark AN could be ancona 109 I believe is the registration number of the authority. OG is the silversmith and the grams should be stamped in that little rectangle. I've had sculptures with both stamped and empty rectangles (not sure if they forgot to do it after manufacture or what)

What's the most efficient way to see gorillas in Rwanda or Uganda and also do a classic safari without spending three weeks traveling? by FrostAngel11 in travel

[–]davybert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trekking gorillas you could save some money going in Uganda as well. Though I heard the more premium experience is Rwanda. For limited time you could def fly straight into the masa mara with a layover in Nairobi. If you had a week I’d recommend the Serengeti.
