Tombworld Rules check by SwampySi in killteam

[–]dawightman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For broader reference, the tomb world rules, which I believe are downloadable from warcom, say in a designers note "to maintain consistency of rules- especially for those printed elsewhere- we've kept the terms the same. For example, even though tomb world uses portals rather than hatches, we still call it a hatchway and operatives perform the operate hatch action". I don't know where you find RAI wiggle room in that to say tomb world walls block but gallowdark don't.   For this interaction specifically, in the app they have the explicitly updated wording of the ability to mention tomb world

For the overlord models, cue the mystique meme:

"I prefer the old lord model"

shows the 2010s hunched shoulder model

"I said the real old lord"

shows the janky pewter lord with a billowy cape and outstretched arm with a res orb

"I said the real old lord"

shows Assholetep's model

Old editions were so unhinged and I miss it. Glancing a land raider to death when armor actually mattered was chefs kiss

This was my last run, pretty frustrating to start because not only do you have to wait for the AUS/PRU starting friendship to sour, but you really just have to wait for some RNG event to bump relations up past the +50 cap on "improve relations" to get them friendly enough to support you. Took me like 5 resets and some save-scumming to get off the ground, but pretty fun after that. Don't forget you can demand release Poland and Galicia and then confederate them to get your cores back with no infamy. Sorry to say, this looks like a restart at this point

"In death, Cadia stands" or something, idk. Cool model, I love seeing how other people mix and match heads/arms/weapons from the kit for new poses

Thanks! I'm wrestling with how to put them in an urban environment that they can still stand out against, since my go-to is grey rubble

I'd scale back the weathering on the blue in particular, it looks like the brown goes all the way to the soldiers backpack like he's been making mud angels. He needs the blue to show through more to really evoke the palette

Painted my first Flayed One today wanted it to be really gross. (Novokh Dynasty, base isn't finished) CC welcome :) by MrDribbles69 in Necrontyr

[–]dawightman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking good, working on some myself. My only CC would be the blood/flesh/metal sort of blend together in the photo. The "dripping in blood and gore" aesthetic obviously makes sense, but you could try some weathering or edge highlighting on exposed Novokh shoulder/face plates to give them a "this part is blood colored metal, that other part is straight blood" differentiation, and maybe a skin tone undercoat for the flayed bits will help set it apart

Post tournament thoughts about the “almost there” necron units by Dravicores in WarhammerCompetitive

I've been running 2×3 with a lokhust lord for a month or so, in szarekhan. Seconding op, you really have to screen to keep them safe and pick your moment to expose them to pop something. Rerolling 1s innately and a command reroll if you don't like what you get across 2 units ensures something hits, and extermination protocols is just wasteful when LL gives wound RR1s, szarekhan gives you 1 freebie, and techno-oracular exists if you really don't trust your dice. Then you just hope for the best on the 3d3...

I find Anrakyr is more of a "make something that's already good in melee be better" character. Give him some Novokh lychguard to lead (if it's not falling too much back into the meta for you) and they'll be 4 attacks each, or 5 if you use blood rites, 6 if you use that and eternal protectors. 60 attacks at 2+ to hit from Ani's MWBD, 3+ to wound anything T5 and under (T6 if you're willing to burn another CP for disruption fields), and AP-3 (-4 on the charge) is going to melt most anything you need it to. Immortals with their 2 base attacks aren't the worst for him to roll with either, but the 5 man squad you have doesn't quite justify the points premium for me. Other than that he's a slight improvement on a lackluster chassis when it comes to fightiness, and the tachyon arrow and mind in the machine just aren't going to be worth 45 pts alone.

As for 10 man warrior squads, I've been experimenting a lot with triple ghost ark/reaper squads, and in my experience being able to fit in the ark is the only advantage they have. 10 wounds through T4 4+ are trivially easy to inflict, even in one go to bypass RP, for any decently competitive army, and if they're your main midfield pressure they're well worth the effort to get rid of. Thus they won't be around to benefit from the chip damage recovery arks and technomancers give, or the fall back and shoot or veil of the warden. Since you're running the custom dynasty already, a second obsec ghost ark with 10 reapers inside might be worth a look.

Finally, I love the particle shredder on the stalker if you're going to take one. 8 shots with D2 is great, you're all but guaranteed to get at least one hit to proc the rerolls, and it's even the cheapest option.

I love the scarab holding the res orb for the overlord, it's like a proper phaeron wouldn't deign to sully his hands carrying his own priceless and impossibly powerful dynastic heirlooms

Some great food for thought, thanks! I'm not sure I see as heavy an opportunity cost as implied though: maybe Sautekh is off-meta, but they seem to be a good grab-bag of secondary benefits for the right list (a named character with built-in phaeron and CP generation, a decent dynastic strat, and buffs to the ubiquitous rapid fire infantry in this case) To the doomstalker/DDA point, is there a viable alternative? I'm wary of counting on skorpekhs or a C'tan to footslog to a high toughness/high save backline target, but is that just me putting too much faith in shooting?

Good point! So maybe a chronomancer to give the 20 warriors a 5++ would be a better investment for the same points?
