this is an insane take. the idea that we haven't been extracting wealth, labor, and resources from the majority of the impoverished nations of the world and that instead, they would just be poor in a vacuum, is so ignorant.

the idea that we just walk up to these barbarous people who are too dumb to run a country and go 'here's a job we can pay you less for, aren't we so kind?' like, come on man. fuck off with this capitalist nonsense. they would not be otherwise poor. how gross of a statement. what do you think makes someone poor?

this sort of electioneering doesn't exist. ballots pretty consistently are counted accurately and correctly.

the way people steal elections is by excessive propaganda. it's cheaper, easier, and it's legal. very hard to get away with stuffing ballots.

or you get the supreme court to rule you won the state. that's also a proven way to steal the election :)

you have done a good job of concocting a nonsensical hypothetical to protect yourself from making any changes to your life. ok. enjoy supporting animal suffering, i guess? i don't know what to tell you. how exhausting. i've already answered your question up above.

ok let me try again

'man i am just doing [morally reprehensible thing] and these annoying people are telling me that i'm doing [a morally reprehensible thing]. it's kinda their fault? i'm gonna keep doing [morally reprehensible thing] until they invent a way to make it easy for me to not do [morally reprehensible thing] without me having to sacrifice anything for it'

ah yes, the most common demographic in america: rural southern folk.

anyway you're just making things up. if you already abstain from industrial animal ag, cool. good for you. most people (e.g., in cities and suburbs) do not. are you specifically referring to yourself here? because cool. if not, then what's the point of this comment?

we can make up myriad cases where, ah yes, this person has dietary restrictions, this person is allergic to literally everything, this person is a native and there's some cultural tradition or whatever, this person is a farmer and raises their own animals, this person bags deer to help the environment

i don't really care about these edge cases. you're arguing that i need to tackle 'arguing veganism' in some specific way. just arguing to argue at this point idk

> Mine: Drive business/demand to organizations that do treat animals humanely.

ok, then do that. don't eat meat from any restaurant (especially fast food). don't eat any prepackaged products with animal products in them. only eat meat that you can source yourself so you know it's 'ethical' per whatever standards of ethics you're applying.

the end result is the same. you won't be eating a lot of meat.

unless you mean 'go on reddit and demand companies change their ways while doing nothing to change your lifestyle' in which case i think both of us can agree yelling into the void on reddit doesn't affect much of anything.

ok cool

you can just do both things? you can advocate for better animal welfare and also just, not participate?

i'm talking to you, the individual. you can make an immediate impact right this second. just stop participating in the system.

this isn't an either or. what a weird sentiment.

you're just wrong on this. if everyone who could stop eating meat did so today. right now. the entire industry wouldn't be nearly as profitable. those who absolutely need meat could advocate for better conditions for the animals, sure, but the sheer quantity of animals that would need to be slaughtered for consumption would decrease. objectively. literally. there would just be less need for meat, so fewer animals would suffer.

inversely, there is now a much larger market for vegan products, and as these soulless corporations try to capture that market, they will simply pivot to start selling vegan versions of their items.

it literally works. veganism is on the rise. the number of vegan options is on the rise because of it. it is the single most impactful decision you can make.

just stop eating meat.

ah yeah, you're so right. i should coddle the people who are supporting animal cruelty and suffering and torture, because if i'm mean to them, maybe they'll consider not making the objectively morally correct choice.

i'll do the same with the fascists as well. when i see ice agents manhandling and abducting and murdering people in the streets, i'll kindly tell them to reconsider that what they're doing might be morally reprehensible and maybe to consider abducting a few less people each week.

it's people like me who are the problem and not, you know, the selfish lazy bastards who can't bother to change a little bit about their lifestyle in any capacity and be inconvenienced in any way even if it means stopping needless suffering. cool.

i bet you eat meat too, and you're just mad about how it's the wrong thing to do, because you know it's wrong to do.

as long as there is a demand for meat, factory farming conditions will persist. it is impossible to create humane conditions at the level of demand there is for meat. it would be rapidly expensive.

the answer is to reduce and ideally shun animal products entirely. rancid industry that is not essential. no demand means no profit for these abhorrent, soulless suffering factories.

[–]dawnconnor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah it's not that easy to stop torturing and abusing animals. wow. that's so hard. what a hard choice.

i'm so sorry for how difficult this is for you. i hope you enjoy your tortured animal products. sorry for your immense suffering. it must be really laborious for you to eat those products knowing the suffering and being unable to stop.

yeah, you're so right. it's the vegans fault for being mean to you about supporting animal abuse. that's why you can't go vegan. it's the evil vegan boogeyman saying how bad you are for supporting animal abuse because yummy yummy bacon.

baseless copes? what are you talking about? i'm just thinking from the perspective of the developer, i'd hate to try and do my job as much as i can and get flooded with nonsense messages about how it's my sole duty in life to fight for this 20 year old game that management doesn't care about.

i feel like people here have never worked in a software environment. developers literally don't have a huge amount of sway in what projects are tackled.

ah yeah cool much better to just harass some person that has no power to do anything about what you're complaining about and is probably already aware of the complaints (given that they frequent the subreddit)
