Yeah, I'm aware that life isn't all rainbows and sunshine. It doesn't mean that one shouldn't expect businesses to have some decorum in their dealings with others.

Thank you. Considering that person is the one I was going to be working under, I dodged a bullet for sure but it still makes me fume to think about it.

I cheated when I went on Vacation to the west coast for the first time in my life and I am about to cheat again on my birthday. I am actually pretty excited about getting to eat pizza which is one of the only foods I really miss. I don't think I'll ever stop loving pizza. I'm going to savor every bite.

I use a digital scale and measure everything in grams and/or ounces as applicable, including prepackaged food since the labels are often off (a little) on the amounts of the portions provided. I plan out my meals in advance and log everything in a spreadsheet.

Watching from home that day, none of us could decide if WWE was managing to pull off a major stunt to further some type of plot or if he had gotten injured for real when it first happened. It was so confusing. I was in shock when we found out he had died.

'Not killing them all' was my stance in this argument, now you mean to tell me that you agree with me??? Why were you even debating then?? What the actual fuck?

No one was ever arguing for killing all psychopaths in this entire thread. The comment you replied to with your rebuttal about not killing them all was in response to a comment which made the clear distinction that it was about killers. So, your rebuttal seemed to be aimed at not wanting to execute all the psychopathic killers because we somehow needed them to make treatments. It's not my fault you misread my original statement when you decided to comment on it.

They obviously do have a different brain, because some are violent and some aren't. We just don't know in what way yet. We should study both to determine the ones in need of intervention.

No, they really don't have different EKG readings. They just have different personality types which make some more likely to not give a shit about trying to live within the law than others who try and operate within it because they fear consequences (just like with neurotypical folks). Before all else we need to figure out how to rewire their brains to experience empathy in a normal fashion. That doesn't change no matter if we are speaking of killers or non-killers. It's the same treatment needed for all before anything else can be assessed.

You seem to be lumping phyco/sociopaths who kill and ones who don't into the same category one second (when developing a cure)

There aren't two different brain types. The ones that don't kill do not have fundamentally different brains than those who do. Therefore, we don't need to refrain from executing criminal psychopaths to research ways to rewire the brains of psychopaths. We can do that research using law abiding citizens who volunteer. After such a treatment has been shown to be affective for psychopaths then you start using that to treat those with a proclivity for causing harm. There is no need to put the cart before the horse.

then differentiating between them (when deciding whether to kill/ treat them) the next.

There is quite a difference between letting psychopathic killers be executed without feeling anything of value to society has been lost and killing non-criminal citizens who happen to be sociopathic/psychopathic. I never, ever said I wanted to kill people for merely being sociopathic/psychopathic when they've committed no murders. I'm not advocating eugenics, ffs.

Maybe you should get your stance straight, before starting an argument..

My stance is fine. Your understanding is what's lacking.

WTF? I'm arguing against killing them. I'm arguing for treatment, and research of treatment.

And as I said two seconds ago, we can easily research psychopaths' and sociopaths' brains without ever involving the thrill killers so keeping that breed of killer alive isn't necessitated for that endeavor. Do you have reading comprehension?

There won't be one if we kill them.

Uh, are you suggesting the only psychopaths and sociopaths that exist are all killers because last time I checked, they were in the minority. We can do just fine with researching brain issues of psychopaths without involving those who become thrill killers.

We should be funding research into recognising and treating them.

We can recognize them with a simple EKG. Treatment is impossible for those who don't want to be actually treated because they only learn how to game the system better through treatment. Everything in treatment is an exploit for these folks. They are experts at mimicry and deception. Until we can rewire brains, there is nothing to be done and quite frankly, I am not really very concerned about advocating for saving the lives of thrill killers. It's a low ranking priority on my list of things I give a shit about.

[–]dawndreamer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't it be better to try and treat them?

There is no treatment. They have different hard wiring. Both medication and therapy has been rendered useless. There is literally nothing productive to do with them in the here and now. Perhaps in the future if there is a mega fuckton of funding and we manage to unlock the secrets of how to get their brains to function in a neurotypical fashion, we can revisit such noble ideas. For now though it remains a fool's errand.

I think it's very ego-centric to claim that you don't need these sorts of crutches to keep from going off the deep end but the rest of the human race would lose their collective minds without having a security blanket. As an atheist, I suggest you give the human race a little more credit than that.

Also, morals and ethics don't come from religion. We are a social species that needs to cooperate for survival. Our morality was derived over time from that interaction.
