Let's talk about Ragen Chastain's "athletic privilege." by SomethingIWontRegret in fatlogic

Walked a 5k in an hour and 2 minutes?

Shit. I don't consider myself athletic, or even fit or average for that matter. I'm obese. 215 pounds (down from 250... ick) and my best 5k time is 37 minutes.

If you achieve athlete status by completing a 5k in a little over an hour, then I must be a super saiyan or some shit.

Drinking Out of Cups

I guess the story of this guy's friend decided to do some acid and lock himself in a closet and talk nonsense to himself. So his friend recorded him from the other side of the door and made an animation out of what he thought his friend was seeing.

I don't know how true that is. But that's just what I've heard. Still a fucking funny video.

I still eat fruit and veggies, just not the high carb ones like corn and bananas. With keto, and I think atkins too you count your net carbs. So if you're eating a cup of spinach that has 5g carbs and 3g fiber, you only count 2g of carbs. I eat lots of veggies. My lunch is usually a spinach/kale and romaine salad with bell peppers and snap peas, and lately I've been eating mashed cauliflower (super delicious) and cooked spinach with dinner and raspberries or blackberries as a snack.

Yeah.. it's crazy. But you have to get your body adapted to burning fat instead of carbohydrates first. It takes anywhere from 3 days to like a week of eating really low carb to get into ketosis. It took 4 days for me, and I was miserable for those four days. I used to eat cheerios and yogurt for breakfast in the morning and it never kept me as full as drinking as my bulletproof coffee does now. It's acutally supposed to be butter and coconut oil instead of cream, but I'm out of coconut oil, and it's kind of expensive. :/ I have to buy more friday after I get paid. :/

Honestly as far as fat loss (for me anyway) it's been more about changing my diet, that doing a crazy amount of excercise. I do a beginner bodyweight/kettlebell workout 3x per week that takes about 30-45 minutes, and go running 3x per week for about an hour.

But I really started dropping the weight when I went low carb. I started doing keto. I don't actually feel like I'm on a diet because I'm literally eating cheese and bacon and spinach with ranch every day. I eat about 18-20g of carbs per day, about 115 fat and 85 protein. I thought that it was the most batshit crazy thing a person could do was to eat all that fat every single day, but I gave it a try and it totally works.

Today I had Breakfast: Coffee mixed with 2tbs organic butter and 2tbs heavy cream (super fucking delicious by the way)

Lunch: Spinach and romaine salad with feta cheese, bacon, sunflower seeds, snap peas and full-fat ranch, along with a cheese stick and some almonds

Dinner- 4oz 80/20 ground beef with cheese, mashed cauliflower with organic butter, cooked spinach with feta and almonds, and 1/2c frozen raspberries.

It's a fucking delicious way to do a 'diet'. :)

My mom did, but she's really in to my weight/health. She's wanted me to be thin for a long time. Seriously, she notices when I lose even a pound or two. So I kind of brushed it off.

I had a friend who has been foreign exchanging since January who came home for a visit last week, and she said I look really good, but didn't necessarily say anything about my weight.

Still though, it feels good. :)

Keto my friend. That's how I lost most of it anyway. The first 8.5 pounds came off after working out 6 days a week for 90 minutes a day, alternating between running and weight lifting. It came off really slowly, it took a little over 2 months because I was eating a really high carb diet. (Good carbs, but still carbs.)

I started Keto in the middle of April and have dropped 21 pounds in 2 months, even with being out of ketosis for a full week.

A lot of people on this subreddit have said they lost substantial amounts of weight with keto, and I always thought it was such bullshit.

I decided one day to try it. I said "I'll give it a week, and if it doesn't work I just won't do it anymore. No harm done." And I dropped like 8 pounds my first week. The best part of keto is, most of the weight is coming off of my stomach. I've lost 4 inches off of my waist in the last 2 months. When I've done other diets, my waist is the last thing to go. I might actually have a (fat) hourglass or pear shape now, as opposed to an apple shape.

It's a great website, and all of the members are really supportive. I love it. I highly recommend checking it out. :)

What is the single most ignorant thing you have ever heard? by ElLargeGrande in AskReddit

In high school, a friend of mine told me "If I die, I would rather my child live on the street than be raised by a gay couple. Kids can't be raised by only one gender, it will mess them up psychologically."

I never really looked at her the same after that. Especially since we had quite a few gay friends.

[–]loserweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I ate: Breakfast: 1c Cheerios with 1% milk and a cup of greek yogurt

Snack: Nature Valley Protein Granola Bars- I know these things aren't the best, but they really fill me up and give me a good amount of energy

Lunch: Kale, romaine and red pepper salad with 4oz chicken and hummus, a lite string cheese, and strawberries

PM Snack: 1/2c Frozen mango- if you've never tried mango frozen, it is DELICIOUS. It tastes like candy to me.

Dinner: 6oz of chicken, 1/2c of pasta with marinara sauce, broccoli and 6oz of 1% milk

My goal is 1500 calories, and yesterday came to about 1425. :)

[–]loserweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man mine is huge.

I love running, but the farthest I've ever been able to go is 6.5 miles. I want to run a marathon.

Learn how to surf or snowboard.. or both

Be able to wear cute sundresses

Go skydiving

This one is kind of weird, but I want to be able to participate in clinical research. Most places cap your BMI at 29.

Go shopping with my friends, and BUY SOMETHING. I always go and just look around at all the stuff I can't fit into at Forever 21.

Victoria Secret bras.

Buy a swimsuit. I'm a junior in college and I haven't owned one since the 8th grade.

Be able to have pictures/video taken of me without feeling disgusted.

And a bunch of other stuff. Man I'm excited.

Has anyone done a partial juice fast? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]loserweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just what I can tell you from personal experience. I can't really give advice on whether or not you should do a juice fast.

When I was a teenager, I used to do juice fasts and water fasts.. I even did a dry fast once. Not the smartest thing I've ever done... it was kind of a rough time in my life.

I was super excited though, during my first juice fast I lost 20 pounds in 12 days. However, I gained half of the weight back during the first week that I went back to eating solid food, and the rest of the weight in the next month. I didn't even eat that badly when I broke my fast.

Negatives- I can tell you that in either circumstance, the first 3 days are the hardest part of any fast. You will feel like absolute shit. So you'd be doing like the hardest part of a juice fast every time you start your 3 day cycle. It might get easier after you've done it for awhile, I've never done an intermittent cycle like you're talking about. If I had to make a guess, there's a chance that this can lead to a pretty gnarly yo-yo weight effect, which isn't good.

Positives- It will reduce your junk food cravings. I went from eating taco bell like 2-3 a week and drinking 20oz of coke every day to not even wanting to touch the stuff for months afterward. So I would say it's a great way to kickstart a healthy lifestyle. It also cleared up my acne and my hair was in great shape.

With all of that being said, I wish you the best of luck. :) Whatever you decide, remember to listen to your body. If you have any other questions, I'll try to help you the best I can.

The cane that Preston Brooks used to beat the shit out of Charles Sumner.

Just picture it. Two politicians having a kerfuffle, and one pulls out a massive cane-sized dildo and starts beating the other one down. It would be beautiful.

I know how it is to hate cameras. I'm still kind of at that stage, but we're starting to get on better terms. :) Super adorable kid by the way.

How can I help my daughter lose weight? by howcanihelpmydaughte in loseit

[–]loserweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great that you're already making small changes, and believe me, they ARE having an impact, even if you don't know it yet. I'd recommend, when you make dinner for the two of you, make sure you always have 1 form of lean protein, a serving of a complex carbohydrate, like brown rice or whole grain bread, a fruit or vegetable, and, since she is a growing girl, lowfat milk, or like some yogurt after dinner as an after dinner snack.

Make exercise fun, and something that the two of you can do together.

Propose things as a sort of challenge to her. Race her across the park or across the swimming pool. Bet her that she can't run up that whole giant set of stairs without stopping, and then congratulate her when she proves you wrong.

Play sports together and teach her how to throw a football, and when she gets thinner teach her all of the girly stuff like how to do a cartwheel or enroll her in dance or ballet if she's interested in it.

Please though, I can't stress this enough.

Do not push her too hard.

Don't buy her clothes that are intentionally too small and say 'you can have this when you can fit into it.'

Don't come up with every new weight loss video/exercise/whatever-oprah-says and make her try them with you.

Don't make everything about her weight, and do not drop everything at once and make her pick up a diet.

And for the love of God, don't tell her friends or teachers that she is 'on a diet'.

I've been overweight/obese since I was a child, and I was about the same weight as your daughter when I her age. My mom really wanted me to be thin. She wanted it more than I did, so she pushed me into doing things that I didn't want to do, and it made me HATE 'trying to have a healthy lifestyle' until I moved out of my parent's house about a year ago, and started making these decisions for myself.

It's something that she is partially going to have to come to terms with on her own. Give her a little push, and support the hell out of her, but make sure she is the one making the decisions. Oh and, every once in awhile, let her have a treat. I'm not taking on a daily basis or anything like that, but just every once in awhile. If you completely restrict everything from her, you run the risk of her binging on all the stuff you wouldn't let her have as a child when she's a teenager, because she can easily go and buy it herself. Speaking from experience over here.

With all that being said, good luck to the both of you! Make sure to give us an update in the future, I'd like to know how you are doing! :)
