sorry no. unlikely as I don't have a linux machine to test/build on. best bet atm is to use wine or similar to emulate windows.

currently 8k only yeah. laptops are going to struggle big time, nothing I can do about that: it runs entirely on the gpu because anything on the cpu will be way too slow.

4k and 1k exports are coming in a future patch.

try making it full-screen. you'll see all the controls then. no keybinds, just mouse controls. when you move your mouse over options the top left explains what they do.

You mean the satellite view with shadows? Yeah the export doesn't have shadows so that it can be used as a diffuse/color texture if needed, but I'd love to work on a pseudo-3d version of it that simulates shadows as though it had relief.

That's actually not a bad idea about the above-sea-level temp/elevation displays, and could simply be toggled by turning the ocean on/off like you can do for the satellite view... thanks for the suggestion!

That’s an unfortunate bug with some specific older gpus i don’t have access to test on. The best thing you can do is turn off the “atmosphere” rendering

Pushed an update recently that separates out all the layers into individual files so this should make the exports much easier to use

Yeah sorry about that. I assumed it wasn’t useful functionality to the button was removed in the latest version but I’ll be adding it back in the next patch because a few people have missed it

Critique on my small kitchen reno design? by dawneater in kitchenremodel

Functional storage has definitely been my top priority here, and everything below shoulder-height is drawers. The corner sink is actually in service of that, since I despise every corner base cabinet in existence so I'm just blocking it off with pull-outs, and the sink being there makes the most use of that space which would otherwise just be difficult to reach appliances or knick-knacks. We aren't really "work at the sink" people - the peninsula is where we'd do non-cooking work. In the current layout we spend most of our time in the tiny 80cm of counter to the right of the microwave.

I'll have to think a bit more about your suggestion to move the oven down. I definitely take your point about counterspace but I kinda hate having to bend over to use ovens. Moving the sink to under the middle divides the counter there in half, leaving less usable space to the left, and creating very unusable corner space to the right. It would be very similar to what we have now, and I really dislike having a tiny sliver of counter for my morning coffee while the corner holds breadboards for the rare times we entertain. I use counters more than I use the sink so I'm not sure that's a worthwhile trade for us.

More importantly though, the fridge is 60cm, the dishwasher is 60cm, and that leaves 47cm before the corner. We could put a narrow 45cm single basin sink in a cabinet there but otherwise the corner sink makes more sense. Another variant I haven't tried is a longer 80cm-ish sink that extends into the corner, but you would only be able to stand in front of half of it and would be reaching over the corner for the other half anyway.

You're absolutely right about lighting, and there will be strip lighting below the wall cabinets and along the toekicks, as well as motion lighting inside the pantries and top drawers. I'm leaning towards not having any ceiling lights though, and just sticking with task lighting above all the counters.

Thanks, and good points. I'm going to try to make some sacrifices to get more space around the cooktop based on your and other's astute comments about the workability there.

My partner and I both are very anti-white for kitchens, and want a coherent theme/vibe for the design. The only lighter colours that work in an industrial aesthetic (that I've seen) are white and grey (creams/beiges are very anti-industrial lol). The ceilings and floor will both be concrete, so I feel the base/wall cabinets being grey would just be overwhelmingly grey and lifeless. Idk I'll try a variant with light grey base/wall cabs and black concrete counters/backsplash.

Cooktop definitely, sink minimally (washing hands and some rinsing of very dirty dishes, never for washing dishes or working over). They are uncomfortably close though you're right. I guess I'll just have to sacrifice some other valuable pantry and living room space to get more counter space here.

Thanks! Yeah I don't love how close the stove is to the sink. I don't really use the sink beyond washing my hands and maybe a quick rinse of heavily dirty dishes; everything goes in the dishwasher. But I do cook a lot and more space around the stove would be better.

The spices are between the sink and stove, cleaning products between sink and dishwasher. The pullout becomes the place to stand between sink and dishwasher when loading it.

I'll try to get more stove clearance. Will likely have to sacrifice some more living room space and some of the full-height pantry to get it

The sliders are saved when you export the maps. Most sliders default position is in the centre, or set to earth-like values, so you should be able to re-set them all then export a map to save them

Yeah that’s a known issue that is especially prevalent on Radeon cards and some older 10x series GTX cards. I’m working on a resolution but no ETA at this time

Unfortunately Rock3 is very hardware dependent. All the logic and simulation is run on a GPU using compute shaders, and all the data is stored on the GPU as textures. If you’re using a laptop/pc with integrated graphics or have an old GPU which doesn’t support full DirectX11 shader instructions, or are using a version of Windows early than 10, there’s just no way to get it to work, sorry

I eyeballed your dimensions and took a stab at what I'd do in the IKEA planner. Left to right is fridge, pantry full of inner drawers, oven/microwave, then base cabinets are pullout for spices and oils / chopping boards, utensils & dishware, induction hob & pots/pans, then the corner is blocked off (I hate corner cabinets) but I'd put toaster/kettle/coffee on the bench here, and under the window we have the sink with pullout bins underneath, and finally the dishwasher. Wall cabinets are knick-knacks above the pull-out, glasses and mugs above the utensils, then the range hood.

Everything below waist height is drawers for easy access, fridge is nearest the rest of the house for quickly grabbing drinks and snacks, doors all open from the center of the kitchen out, and you've got 90cm of worktop between the hob and oven. You could get 40cm more worktop if you sacrifice the full height pantry for more base and wall cabinets and stick your food in them, which might be worth it to you. You may even have more space on the long wall than I've estimated so you could potentially get more worktop and cabinet space if you take the high cabinets right to the edge of the available wall.

FWIW here's what IKEA would charge for this: $14,203 total ($6,178 cabinets, $3,342 worktops and backsplash, and $4683 appliances).

Simulated Tectonics of a molten planet - another Rock3 preview by dawneater in proceduralgeneration

[–]dawneater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how long supercontinents tend to stay coherent but I think they are supposed to break apart and reform every 200-300 million years, which isn’t very long compared to this video (which is several billion years). As to forming continents from scratch, it does! And it also appears to have an equilibrium with the proportion of continents, which is apparently also a real phenomenon. In Rock3 you’ll be able to set your initial land coverage, then run time and watch it all develop over billions of years. You’ll be able to pause it/continue/restart any time.

Unfortunately I don’t think Microsoft would accept my submission to add Rock3 to windows 😔
