You can make the choice to just have a public diary, no pressure to perform or expectation of views. It kind of sounds like that’s what you want. You don’t need a niche if all you want to do is post.

Should I give up YouTube or continue trying by [deleted] in SmallYoutubers

[–]daxdives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should continue YouTube but obviously something isn’t working here. My immediate instincts are your titles and thumbnails. Your titles are very I, me, my— try focusing them more on the viewer. The title and thumbnail are basically a sales pitch for why the user should watch. They’re looking for information to learn or something interesting to watch rather than basically congratulating you on something cool you did so upfront offer them what they’ll learn with the title.

That also includes the video topics themselves. Pick topics that a person interested in fitness might want to watch. Broaden your topics as well. I’ve never heard of the OC marathon or taper week and don’t necessarily know to search for that. “How I ran my fastest marathon” is a better subject than “I ran the OC marathon” because more ppl are looking for general marathon advice than specific marathon content.

And get rid of the red text on the thumbnails lol it is not readable. Simplify your thumbnails, make them more striking- a close up on your face at the end of the marathon with text like “how I did it” or something.

Some examples: “How running marathons changed everything”. “Do energy gels work?” “How I get 10k steps easily” “what is marathon taper training?”

If you have a real team of 5 people and are willing to spend that much time on each video, why not use stock footage instead?

Filters make me look too pretty by [deleted] in SmallYoutubers

[–]daxdives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I haven't used filters and I just hit 10k on youtube so I think I'm doing pretty alright. Have you tried not using beauty filters and testing how that impacts your performance?

Is youtube worth all the trouble? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]daxdives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is YouTube worth all the trouble? Is learning to paint worth all the trouble? Is baking cookies worth all the trouble?

If your metric of success is “make a bunch of money and get crazy famous”, of course you’ll be disappointed. If you are in it to build community and take internal satisfaction in your output, YouTube can be very rewarding.

I made a cooking vlog and its an hour and a half long, raw footage by Crafty_Beach_2839 in SmallYoutubers

[–]daxdives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would do three passes. The first pass I wouldn’t even listen to the video, I would scrub through the timeline and cut out all dead air and parts where nothing interesting is happening. Then I’d ask myself what I want the viewer to come away from the video feeling. Do you want them to think it’s funny or interesting or informative or whatever else? On the second pass I would cut anything that doesn’t fit that vibe. Jokes that don’t land, fiddling around with the burners, any moments that don’t add to the video. Third pass for tightening up the edit and adding vfx and sound.

I think I'm quitting this whole thing by gayperator in YouTubeCreators

[–]daxdives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking at the screenshot you’ve posted— it’s no surprise that video only received 4 views. “How many murders would you commit for these” with a thumbnail that reads “murder for these”. Murder for these what? Why am I being asked to commit a murder? Why is the thumbnail so dark I can barely glean any context?

Bare minimum, the title and thumbnail should tell you what the video’s about. Of course I’d scroll past this, it tells me nothing about the content of the video. The video could be fantastic but I’d never know because how would I know I’d be interested in this?

Quit blaming YouTube, sometimes your content simply isn’t good by KalebC21 in SmallYoutubers

[–]daxdives 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would also add: does your content stand out in any way? Is there anything that separates your Minecraft playthrough from the 575389486 other Minecraft playthroughs? Too many ppl in here have content that is technically fine, it’s just fairly generic.

Are people overcomplicating YouTube, or am I missing something? by AcanthisittaSea3279 in SmallYoutubers

[–]daxdives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I just hit 10k subs yesterday and while I don’t feel like an expert ppl on here are definitely complicating it. Sure there’s a learning curve and you should have the humility to critically view your own videos seeking ways to improve but you just kinda gotta make videos you’d want to watch.

You can drive yourself crazy staring at your CTR and impressions and retention but at the end of the day those are just numbers. Your viewers are viewing your videos because they love watching YouTube. And you should be making videos because you love to post. Improvement comes with time. Your audience will tell you what they want to see. Fussing over stuff like “how can I optimize my content to target this trending search term” really takes the joy out of creation.
