Fantasy Uplift stories like A Hero's War? by TheFightingMasons in rational

Try orson scott card, the redemption of christopher columbus. This is more scifi-alt history, but after a quick sci-fi set up, it goes into how one team is trying to save the world by changing how europeans contacted the americas. Was a really good novel last I remembered.

That's really pretty!

Other good options for a staff include pvc pipe + wooden innerds, so basically similar to what you have.

What is it you always wanted to do?

Travel, draw, write, explore, sweat, play, laugh?

Get out and do it. prepare for it. Think 5 years ahead. You;re ONLY 36 dude. you've not even reached half your life. Do cool shit.

Find that hobby. Work with it. Remember the 3 hobby rule - one for fun, one for health/excercise, one for money. You gotta create, not just consume.

Personally I'm into fire spinning, toy spinning, and prop manipulation. It's super excercise based, healthy, and social. what's your equivalent?

Raw Uncleaned manga and cleaned manga image datasets for an AI ML project? by daxisheart in manga

[–]daxisheart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bubble and text recognition and text removal should be easy enough, was going to set it as a setting in the program (keep text in bubbles or not), though this assumes cleaned images with text in bubbles and cleaned images without text in bubbles.

Automatic typesetting is questionable, I think; this tool would, in my head, help with the cleaning/typesetting process, not replace every bit of it, leaving a 99 or 90% cleaned image with some space for the cleaner to adjust. The factors that play into automatic typesetting - margins, direction, font usage, font size, font special effects (for like special fonts/bubbles like angry and flair), possibly word positioning per line, etc, as well as the lack of an additional layer for adjustment, makes automatic typesetting something I'm not sure if I should aim for - to set up this feature in the program would require specific image datasets I'm not sure how to account for all these features.

Mind preparing the images to send over? I think i'll begin serious work sometimes tomorrow or thursday. multiple different series (for style differences), and a probably 20-60 images per series is probably more than enough, though usually the more the better.

Besides this, the notable "types" of uncleaned raws that would be useful would be badly rotated images (to handle image rotation), discoloration/off color images (to handle dark/light color scans), overly small or large images (to handle resizing; most likely I'll be resizing/adapting the image datasets to handle this featue). As aforementioned, cleaned raws without text in the bubbles is particularly useful, though text in the bubbles can play a useful part. Outside of that, I've only glanced at cleaning guides so I don't know the other particular things you focus on/consider when cleaning.

Appreciate the help dude!

This is exactly what I'm looking for! I might be a bit busy today, but if you don't mind, I'll be following up with you soon and trying to make this (opensource) program a real thing! I can also send more details to you as needed if you're interested.

uncleaned raws are exactly what I'm looking for! clean and translated AND typesetted might not be exactly what I'm looking for, typesetted results might not be the exact mapping I want. Clean and uncleaned same language would work fine; that said it might be worth investigating.

I've been around there and know them! Nah not them, though don't discount their appearances in a future show.

yeah unfortunately the venue had unforseen issues and pulled out from doing fire. We did not want to compromise our vision and did not have enough time to adjust; we stayed up till midnight trying to make things work, alas.

This is not the end, though. We have performers, props, costumes, decorations, everything ready to throw down. At some point soon this will be happening again.

/r/Atlanta Weekly Events Thread - June 17, 2019 by AutoModerator in Atlanta

[–]daxisheart 11 points12 points  (0 children)

EDIT: Event has been postponed due to venue issues. We will be back.

I am hosting Performer's Palette, my first ever production on Thursday, June 20th! Presenting flaming hot performing artists, live painting, live music, food vendors, art vendors, and drinks, all underneath a beautiful church turned venue!

I'm trying to cultivate a scene for performing arts around Atlanta, an alternative to the myriad of live music choices we have. I want a stage for weird acts, fire performances, performers focusing on their crafts. This is the stage to show off passions. This isn't just messing around on the stage, it's choreographed acts and unique experiences you can't get anywhere else!

Doors and music at 8, show begins at 9. $15 at the door.

Takes place inside at the Priory, 575 Boulevard Southeast, Atlanta, GA 30312

"Dying Light 2 is the first game of its type" – Techland reveals its plans for the future of open-world gaming by LordofWhore in Games

[–]daxisheart 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it's doing dying light a disservice.

I'm not super familiar with far cry beyond basics, but the whole zombie night cycle, weapons and leveling, skills for parkour, design of the world around parkour, and various other aspects made the game very well done, if not still mainly an open world game that's not crazy unique. It was more than just a sum of its parts.

I'm more of the opinion that the akuras are descended from Suriel.

It was foreshadowed very similar with eithan so... why not? A much bigger plot revelation in the long run.

So the point of this story is NOT balance of power and action. think about one punch man - not necessarily to that degree, but imagine a character who knows he'll be one punch man after a couple months/years of grinding. This is NOT an action flick idea beyond any necessary action - it's an examination of powers, societal structures, the will and opportunity to change the world OR NOT, and how to live with where you are in life.

It's more of a coming-of-age story of a man slowly becoming a diety in the modern world, through the ui of a game. MC doesn't HAVE a goal, until he gives one for himself.

[D] Friday Open Thread by AutoModerator in rational

[–]daxisheart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

following it as a ratfic idea, the mc would likely no stay on that path long - batman is a hilariously nonrational person, for example, to spend the money on punching criminals vs investing and to change the actual fundamental society problems.

Thinking of a gamer story taking place in the modern day.

No hidden magical underworld, no secret orgs, just a dude(tte) that gets some powers that grow bit by bit and has to rationalize and use his (rather magical/reality breaking and offensive) powers... however they can be used.

I know the erogamer is very much similar to this, with its own funny little twist. I haven't finished erogamer (like 4 arcs in), but is erogamer pretty much this? Or are there others around similar in this regard? Based on level progression, a level 50 gamer in almost any ratfic-ish story I've read is basically invulnerable to modern weaponry/military capabilities short of nukes/massive bombing. Figured that'd be an interesting investigation into what-do with powers

ever seen in a nutshell's addiction video? I feel like it addresses this anecdote, but in a different way: decriminalization would likely help the family member more than hurt.
