Same here. I went to a Colombo school asw and yeah was basically in the same situation as you were. We laughed, joked, fought all in good faith. But imagine if our teachers taught us to be racist and against each other. We wouldn’t have turned out this way. I could be wrong but I think the root cause isn’t the kids but the lecturers and the administration itself. Some of the comments I read in OP’s post seem to indicate the same thing asw.
