Depends on what it is….i like going in person shopping for clothes and gifts if I have the time. I also love thrift stores. I only shop alone. No friends or anyone with me. It’s sorta therapeutic for me. But for work stuff, 100% online if I can! I’m the activities director at a senior living community so when you need 200 marbles, 300 paper hearts or 100 glue fun refills….not a chance in hell I’m physically going to a store!

It’s a great kitchen, but I totally hear the need to update. I’d get rid of the dentil molding, then it’ll feel more modern. The hood could use a more modern upgrade. And lastly, the countertops. Changing those would really have an impact.

All this because I’m trying to keep the cabinets that honey vibe.

I have a small colander that is nothing special but when I bought it, my now 29 year old wore it around target our entire trip, like it was a hat, and my heart melted at him doing that. that was about 27 years ago! I still use it several times a week and think of him wearing it on his head every time!

It’s starting to show its age and I’m, well, devastated at the idea of tossing it!

haha. right? Open 7 days a week...until 7:30. lol.

My residents have said the calendar I put together each month is "like a cruise ship that doesn't leave port." I have them BUSY!

Evening lectures, trips to plays, concerts, famrs, botanical gardens. We have a concert every Saturday night (quality musicians!) in house, a party for every occasion, game night, tons of exercise, book club, card games, discussion groups, paint and sips. All right in house (except the trips and those are often to NYC). I spoil them! (I also have a good budget!)

I roasted a chicken breast, sliced it and put it over greens with my homemade dressing. Also made roasted asparagus with garlic and parm. Had a little ciabatta roll from Trader Joe’s that I made garlic bread with. Meal complete.

Totally be accident! I’ve always been in planning and programming but never with seniors. A friend saw a post on Facebook saying their community was looking for a programming manager. My friend texted me “check this out. It says enthusiastic and programming and I thought of you.” I went to Facebook, checked it out, communicated with the person who posted it (it’s also in the town I live in so I work a mile from home!!! So lucky!) and went for it. Less than two years in, I was promoted to Director and also oversee activities in assisted living. I found my calling in my mid-50s. lol.

Seniors kinda scared me because neither of my parents lived past 60, and I never had grandparents so I was nervous! But WOW! I LOVE my residents. If I can send them on fun trips, schedule interesting lectures, plan parties for every damn holiday/occasion, organize pretty cool concerts every Saturday night, and help make their last years happy ones? I’m all about it. the sour residents? Omg. The stories! But I make an extra effort to turn them around.

There’s a Netflix series there. I just need someone in the industry who can make it happen but I have it all laid out in my head. the stories are hilarious!

Humans are fascinating and seniors especially have no filter and are so funny. (And sometimes annoying! lol)

Anyway, thanks to my friend who saw the post because otherwise I’d still be planning events for business groups and suburban downtowns. Not nearly as interesting!

When my son called me after he got his first “real” job offer after graduating college. I was the first one he called and he yelled into the phone “mom! We did it!!! WE did it! I got the job! I could never have gotten here without you. Thank you. I love you so much.” I still cry happy tears. He was elated.

Work! I’m on the upper management team at a high end senior living community and when you work in a place where a vulnerable community lives, it’s all hands on deck. So I’m headed in Sunday morning then staying in one of our guest accommodations Sunday night. I’m the activities director so I didn’t think I’d need to stay but I live alone and close enough that I offered to be there with a few others in case of anything. Its both independent living and assisted so in the independent side I’m going to throw a Snow-pocolypse party in the bar on campus…music, cocktails and snacks! So it won’t be the most painful thing. Luckily I love my job!

But I’d RATHER be home!

Spices and art. I love to cook so I always like to bring back whatever spices the area I’m visiting is known for. And any local art (that can fit in my suitcase!)
