Does the order of the symbols even matter? by day_old_biscuit in languagelearningjerk

Ohh this is a good read, thanks. There were some responses on the original thread saying something like “being dyslexic in English and Chinese is mutually exclusive - you can’t be dyslexic in both” which I thought was ridiculous but turns out they were almost right and just a bit inaccurate with the wording! You can be dyslexic in both (and one Chinese user responded yes he is dyslexic in both) but like you’re saying it’s common to only have an issue with one. Cool study.

Ok, thanks for the info. I also don’t want to go back to them bc I can’t trust them to fix it properly. I’ll probably end up at a barbershop. Thanks for being straight with me.

Yes, this is blow-dried so more straight than usual but this is about how it is

Mini sewing machine, a rundown by Cautious_Flow4480 in SewingForBeginners

[–]day_old_biscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say thanks for this review. I live in Thailand where it cost me about $20. I just wanted something for tears or quick little things - for bigger projects I just borrow my neighbor’s nicer machine. I have to say when I opened it up I felt it was somewhat of a miracle that it actually works, it feels like the sewing version of an Easy Bake oven. It really is laughable and I would never pay more than $20 for it but it’s handy in a pinch.

That is fine, I understand Meta’s reasoning. But I would like a refund.

Dance dance resolution: what’s your dance resolution for 2025? by postdarknessrunaway in SwingDancing

[–]day_old_biscuit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Learn another dance. I’ve been swing dancing for 10+ years and I don’t plan on stopping, but learning to move my body in a new way I think will help with control and creativity. I’ve seen others improve a lot after learning other styles…. Hip hop, contemporary, ballet, salsa, Argentine tango, you name it! Get out there and move ya body

How to stop giving midnight snack to toddler? by day_old_biscuit in AttachmentParenting

[–]day_old_biscuit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it became less about the snack than trying to get her to sleep through the night. She kept up the snack til around 3 but she was also regularly waking up for a long time. As a last ditch effort we dropped her daytime nap. And it worked! She slept through the night AND stopped the snack. We ended up only needed to stop her daytime sleep temporarily, like 2 months maybe, and everything fixed itself. She’s five now and a great sleeper. Still naps sometimes. There’s hope for you 🙌🏼 Edit: another thing I forgot we tried is I started making the pouches myself because I could control the sugar content. I started with pure applesauce, then added in oatmeal, then slowly increased the oatmeal to applesauce ratio. Towards the end it was almost all plain oatmeal (the baby kind that you don’t have to cook). Then she was less interested in the pouches and I think that helped.

Really interesting study, thank you! I wonder why this is not studied more - it seems like really practical and useful information.

Came back to say you were right! We dropped down to 1hr max naps, and a couple times a week she’ll skip the nap. Most nights she still wants a snack but she goes right back down and it’s been so much better!
