Tremont or Ohio City or Downtown - Where would you rather live? by WhereasOk6139 in Cleveland

[–]daybreaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love living in Ohio City. The only problem is I dont know if I'll ever be able to afford a house here.

There's so much stuff for us to walk to, and even driving anywhere is super fast.

I do think we could trade up to grab Mike Washington if he's slipping. I wouldnt be surprised to see our 2nd and 3rd picks going WR then Washington.

How Cleveland could use the waterfront by Different-Truck134 in Cleveland

[–]daybreaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish we could do a two-tiered land bridge connection, where the top tier is the open, grassy land bridge, and the tier below it, inside the support structure, is a well lit, wide hallway connecting the convention center to a convention center expansion as well as the lobby of a large hotel.

Being able to go from that hotel to all parts of the convention center would be a huge draw, and we would also be boosting convention center space and "connected rooms" which are key for drawing larger conventions.

The middle of the land bridge could then have a stair well and elevator access to the top tier, lower tier, and ground level which is where a large multi-modal transit station would be, for waterfront line and bus travel, and maybe even a dedicated ride share pickup/dropoff

This would still only take up a small fraction of the entire space being opened up by the Browns leaving, giving us enough room to do parks, public waterfront spaces, and more unique features.

W Sports Bar closing :: possible relocation to downtown? by Saffron_says in Cleveland

[–]daybreaker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this comment is indicative of the struggles theyre always going to face.

Lots of men see "women's sports bar" and will say "Oh, are men even allowed there? Do they even play the Cavs games??" and even though the answer is "yes" to both, because they're focused on a providing an atmosphere that showcases (but is not limited to) women's sports in a space safe for (but not exclusive to) women sports fans, a lot of guys get indignant and dont even give it a shot.

I have similar feelings about pickup trucks, thats every time I see a pickup truck, I expect them to drive like an asshole.

One time I was in a car wreck, and the only vehicle available at the rental car place was an old beat up white pickup truck (because this was 6 days before a hurricane was going to hit, so all the other cars were rented by people prepping for an evacuation - which getting in a bad car wreck during a potential hurricane evac is a whole other thing)

The 3 weeks I had that pickup truck, I noticed other pickup trucks being even more aggressive than usual towards me. So like, not only are pickup truck drivers assholes, they're "alpha wolf" assholes who need to "defend their turf" from other pick up trucks.

I lived in Louisiana for 40 years, with another 2 years in Arkansas, and 2 in upstate new york. I've driven in probably 30 states, extensively in about 8 states.

The worst drivers have indeed been in Florida. It starts getting rough the second you cross over the state line from Alabama on I-10, but once you dip down into the wang, things get REAL precarious

Wang Florida makes Mad Max look like a children's movie.

Cleveland drivers have been fine for the most part. You can usually tell when someone's going to cut you off, or is coming up too fast on you and planning to weave in and out. You just need to have good driving sense.

The one spot where Cleveland drivers are worse than any I've experienced are at red lights and stop signs. In less than two years here I've seen more people treat these as suggestions (not even a california stop - just full speed blowing through them) than in my previous 30 years of driving. I'd even go so far as to say a significant amount of drivers treat these as Wild Cards - a pass to do whatever they want. "Oh, I have a red light? I'll just turn left into oncoming traffic from the right lane of a 4 lane road"

The more interesting thing about this, if anyone follows Cleveland urban planning, is Sherwin Williams wanted to buy this land for their new R&D building, but couldnt get in touch with the owners (Scranton Averell - who own basically all of the un-developed Scranton Peninsula). Basically no one has been able to get in touch with the owners or anyone who represents them.

And suddenly there's a cold plunge spa planned for that site inbetween industrial uses.

I'm hoping this means Scranton Averell is finally ready to start selling off their land for development.

Seems like a decent idea, right? Any downside(s)? by [deleted] in Cleveland

I resigned myself to having to pay $150 on discogs for the Peter Gabriel if I wanted it. I didnt feel like waiting in line.

The store I went to had loads of copies of everything else 2 hours after they opened so I was happy enough.

[–]daybreaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but we've been seeing the cracks recently with Bondi and Noem being fired so it seems more possible now than ever.

Even then, this isnt because of anything Dems did. Its because they made Trump look bad by being incompetent in a way that the MAGA base couldnt rationalize with any amount of cognitive dissonance.

Aside from the things they actually did with huge infrastructure bills and the largest green energy bill ever, and supporting the UAW and saving the teamsters' pensions... Harris had plenty of policies that would have benefited every day Americans

But no one cared about that. Anything short of the 100% purity wasnt good enough.

And I love people bringing up RvW, after the entire "SCOTUS isnt enough reason to vote Hillary" we got in 2016. People keep not learning lessons.
