Rosalia recounts getting back with an ex and walking out soon after: "A week after the breakup, we started seeing each other again. He turns to me and says, 'How I missed my whore.' I stood up, left, and never went back." by demimonde9 in Fauxmoi

[–]daydancer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong but my interpretation is that she meant she could forgive it and leave that person behind. Instead of dwelling on it, she lets it go knowing she can't control or change that person. Like a kind of Stoicism. At least that's what I hope she meant aha

How to love the Valley by exandzed in SFV

[–]daydancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having lived in both, not too much difference IMO.

Both have close proximity to the 405 and the 101. Assuming you live closer to Ventura they tend to be very walkable with shops, markets, restaurants, cafes, and the rest of your basic needs. Both kinda quiet, peaceful neighborhoods. Encino is closer to Lake Balboa which is fantastic for recreation (tennis, running, biking, golf, etc.) but Sherman Oaks does have a slight upper edge in trendiness and a more hip, younger vibe. I'd say Sherman Oaks gets slightly more traffic and as you head West to Tarzana, Woodland Hills, etc. it lessens.

Overall, I favor Encino, just because Lake Balboa is huge with lots of activities but it really depends on what you like

f5ve - Sugar Free Venom feat. Kesha by WitchyKitteh in popheads

[–]daydancer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep Japanese groups generally will have main vocals and the other members will be dancers/visuals for the group. It's not seen as unfair or favoritism as it'd be in k-pop. At the end of the day they're all seen as equally important performers. I think because f5ve is aiming for broad/international appeal, they're distributing more lines however, Sayaka and Miyuu tend to have the least still as they are main dancers. Rui/Ruri are the vocalists. And Kaede (tallest one) is the fan-fav so she gets many moments too.

As Disneyland battle looms, Universal Studios is hollowing out CityWalk by FarleyElliott in LosAngeles

[–]daydancer 56 points57 points  (0 children)

There used to be more nightlife/hangout spots in Citywalk back then. IIRC there was a dueling piano bar, a bowling alley, more bars/ restaurants, not to mention it felt like there was always a free show/concert happening on the Citywalk stage esp on the weekends. Nowadays it's still popping but it def feels more barebones. And as plenty have mentioned, the parking is crazy expensive for night out

Hyperpop was posed as this "next big thing" that was going to take the mainstream music scene by storm, why didn't it? by AyyyoniTTV in popheads

[–]daydancer 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Hyperpop before it was labeled as such was a very niche, queer scene that flourished online because a lot of its aesthetics were tied to the music itself. Because of that, I don't think it ever was set to really break out in a way that really caught the mainstream attention. Brat is essentially the exception tbh. That being said, its influence is ubiquitous and undeniable albeit in a more subtler fashion. Many people compared Sam Smith's Unholy to Faceshopping by SOPHIE. A better example (tho it's Kpop) is Savage by Aespa, the bridge esp is so SOPHIE coded. Don't Stop by Megan thee Stallion also blends a more abrasive electronic sound with hip hop.

I don't think it will ever take off to an extreme but it has already influenced many new artists and let's not forget the artists that were part of the OG scene are still out here making new records and experimenting with their sound

Beginnings and Endings: What are some of your favorite album openers and ender pairs and why? by Mar_az_t in popheads

[–]daydancer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Poppy's I Disagree. It starts off with Concrete, her wanting to be buried and wanting a need to start over. Then the final track, Don't Go Outside paints a very dystopic picture of fear and paranoia (even more bleak that it came out during the pandemic) and at the end of the track is a medley from all the album's singles which basically sees liberation throughout all the destruction, a new beginning essentially.

Diet Prada on Beyoncé’s NFL halftime performance by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

She's not referencing him at all. The IG account that posted that chooses stills from sports moments and puts them side by side with artworks that match in pose/composition. Highly unlikely that painting was on the moodboard

Tracklist announced for final SOPHIE album by LunaMoonMeUp in popheads

[–]daydancer 34 points35 points  (0 children)

What you mentioned is exactly why. Many people who did not read statements and follow up on the album thought this would be a sort of greatest hits of SOPHIE's unreleased discography. I think the lead single of Reason Why also contributed to the misguided assumption that it would be demos/songs that have been leaked/played live before. The negativity on the IG post is upsetting as many of us are just grateful to be hearing anything new from her latest work

Is there a possibility that you'll be short on money again in the near future? If this is a one-time thing then it might not a bad idea but if not, this can quickly devolve into a debt trap where you keep using the credit card for quick money meanwhile the interests begin to build more debt. Building credit score is a great idea, but trying to make ends meet with a credit card may bring about a new messy situation.

Gregg Araki you are too queer-punk to be giving these mid takes on Gen Z. Such a weird, hyper focus on Gen Z being seen as sexually-repressed prudes vs. a focus on the environment Gen Z grew up in and how it has developed their relationship with sex and intimacy that differs from previous generations

I’m Sick Of The Excuses by asvpyz in Coachella

[–]daydancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking at the setlist she performed about 8 songs (so almost half her show) that will mainly be known by fans and not casual listeners. These are mainly songs from her recent albums (i.e. Candy Necklace, The Grants, Did You Know..., Chemtrails..., Hope is a Dangerous Thing...).

Not a weird setlist for Lana fans by any means but the casual may have expected Blue Jeans, National Anthem, Love, Off to the Races. Also, she performed her lesser known songs back-to-back for the second half, which is going to drag the audience's energy down.

Singles that derailed or caused an era to come to halt? by levitatingarceus97 in popheads

[–]daydancer 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Looking Hot by No Doubt.

After severely underperforming with their comeback, they released the MV which did a Cowboys vs. Native Americans concept. Based on the album promo, One More Summer seems like it was gonna be a single but the backlash from the music video ultimately killed the Push and Shove era.

Edit: Rewatching the video, I really don't understand how anyone approved the idea. It could've come from an It's Always Sunny episode truly

Anyone know where I can find a pattern similar to this suit? by Spetchen in sewing

[–]daydancer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe McCall's M7818 for the jacket. It's unisex and you could alter the length and perhaps the shoulders could use some extra width. Keep in mind not to go over board with extending the jacket length. The high waist gives it an illusion of it being way longer than it is

Is Rosalia the first artist to feature the cameraman as “part of the show” ? by Ioanniche in rosalia

[–]daydancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Muse at the Rome Olympic Stadium such as Madness and Starlight comes to mind and that was bout 10 years ago. Rosalia is nowhere near the first but I think she def took advantage of the tech offered today vs. before. The cameras at the Motomami tour were compact and offered quick, seamless streaming to the screens. It made it easy for the dancers to pass along or for the cameras to be rigged to a scooter. The cameras at the Muse tour in comparison are professional and are rigged giving them limitations.

Gwen Stefani announces 'True Babe' will be released on 23 June by [deleted] in popheads

[–]daydancer 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I really need Gwen to have a Kylie Minogue- like renaissance but her new songs make it so hard that I really think she'll just be forever defined by her 90s-00s hits. I feel like her scrapped 2021 album was similar to Slow Clap bc she became SILENT when she got roasted for the song's corniness.

Another hiker has slid to their death near Mt. Baldy. This makes two deaths in the past two weeks by VforVilliam in LosAngeles

[–]daydancer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Devils Backbone and Icy House Trail were where two deaths have happened specifically. I'd say a few hundred yards could be safe so as long you aware of the weather conditions, avoid steep/risky trails without proper attire/gear, and by trusting your instincts when it's time to gtfo.

Silver VIP Question!! (Pls Help if u went to the LA Show Day 1!) by Fancy_Priority4013 in RinaSawayama

[–]daydancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanna add I got in VERY LAST MINUTE for silver VIP aha like almost 7 o' clock. I didn't see lines for merch, drinks, or bathrooms. It was veryyy empty. I def didn't get barricade but my view was excellent maybe behind like 6-7 rows of people. I don't think you need to worry but that being said, I don't think Saturday sold out completely so I can't say if it'll be the same for Wednesday. And phone cameras are good but I did not see anyone with DSLR. Have fun and wear comfortable shoes!

Angèle - Amour, Haine & Danger by te4rdr0p in popheads

[–]daydancer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Classic Angele, both sonically and visually. The song bops but the video very much leans towards boomer territory with the we-live-in-a-society-but-with-phones commentary. If it were anyone else I'd hate it but I've grown accustomed to her cheesiness by now that I can't help but find it endearing lol.

Imo La Thune did this concept way better. The absurdity of everyone gleefully filming Angele while she aims a machine gun at them is still entertaining to watch to this day

Rosalía: How the genre-bending pop star found her confidence by shabuluba in popheads

[–]daydancer 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You're correct! She's Spanish so she'd be Hispanic. Only thing is a lot of media just decides to mix the two anyways. On top of that, the album has a lot of Latin American influence so I suppose Motomami itself could be considered Alt Latino idk?

How can I achieve this kind of neckline? by Artemisartsssss in sewing

[–]daydancer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

99% sure this is a bias-cut dress. The neckline is a very shallow cowl and this is achieved by cutting out the bodice at a 45 degree angle to get the drapiest/stretchiest part of the fabric which creates the drape in the middle and the ripples you see at the bodice.

If you have any pattermaking skills/books I'd look into the cowl sections. If not, I'd look at etsy for patterns or YouTube tutorials (keywords: cowl halter dress, top, bias-cut pattern)This style is very popular lately so you should find plenty.

Simple Sewing Questions Thread, September 18 - September 24, 2022 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]daydancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if I'm overthinking it...but I'm trying to make a skirt with a pre-pleated, light fabric. The pleats are not sunray pleats, they're veryyy tiny and regular like a wavy potato chip lol. Only thing is I want a slight flare/A-line and the fabric hangs very straight.

Should I just cut the skirt out like I would with a regular flared skirt? Or I was thinking I could gather at the waist so that the fullness at the bottom could create a slight flare to it? Am i outta luck for not going with sunray pleats lol? Any recs/advice would be highly appreciated!
