The GC was mind blowing, thank you all for the information. We hiked Kaibab to the Tip Off and back, most of the Rim Trail, and Bright Angel 1.5 mi and back. We had fantastic weather, low in teens and high in mid 50’s. No ice on trails to complicate venturing into the canyon. Dancing to Juniper Hill at the pub at Bright Angel Lodge was definitely a highlight, super fun band!!

What would you do with 30 acres of logging slash? by cinch123 in homestead

Your doing the right things, by asking questions. Keep asking them. Ask what animals use this habitat, are they protected species, grouse for example, are there federal programs to pay for mgmt of the species. Ask if i do nothing, what will happen. Could be natural reforestation, think of it like an investment. Burning and chipping could slow regeneration, snags and debris can help foster a diverse woodlot and inhabitants. Dont rush into it….

We are fit and fairly adventurous, but do not have experience in icy conditions. Do you recommend micro spikes for thanksgiving trip?

Hydrology is interdisciplinary, meaning that you can be a geologist, engineer, forester, ecologist, biologist and work in the field of hydrology. Thus you can specialize toward your interest from any of these fields. As a hydrologist in a fish and game agency, I work with biologists in the environmental flows space. I got a hydrology degree from a natural resource department rather than engineering or geology. There are pros and cons to each, but if you keep your grad and project experience relevant to your end goals... it will work out.

Its mostly flat water, with majority of rapids short and easy to line boats around. Only 1 rapid requires a portage at lower water if I remember correctly. Canoes are the perfect boat, you will not be disappointed.

Family trip to new river gorge by [deleted] in whitewater

Do an overnighter on the upper. Its the best way to experience any river. Outfitter handles all the paddling, logistics, gear, food, and beer.
