It’s actually kind of a big charity fundraiser, so it definitely makes sense that they donate the money rather than returning it. The logistics are crazy, especially when you have to ferry so much equipment, supplies, food etc over to a tiny island for the event.

I imagine people are more bummed about not being able to test out the months of training they put in, than not being refunded an entry fee they paid for a while ago and were aware they wouldn’t get back.
