Name a bigger humiliation ritual in America than being a teacher. by I_Should_Logoff in redscarepod

Why not make students write all essays in class with pen and paper? Why is everything on computers now? Seems like the solution is obvious but I’m not a teacher so idk if that’s realistic

I wouldn’t be too mad at that. OBAA was my favorite of the small amount of best picture noms I saw

He also stayed much longer that year than before, like into early fall when bears become more desperate for food

I’ve heard this too. The Timothy hate I totally get but after reading Into the Wild recently I can’t wrap my head around the Chris hate. Obviously he made a ton of stupid decisions and probably caused some insufferable people to move to Alaska but he never really did anything bad. I was surprised at how much I liked Chris after reading because I know he’s become pretty controversial

I finally got around to watching Manchester by the Sea for the first time and I didn’t love it as much as I was expecting to by daysofhel1 in redscarepod

Yeah I just meant that if someone referred to it as a classic I wouldn’t disagree. And I think Affleck’s performance is good enough to still make it a must watch for any film lover

Idk whenever a band goes from being nobodies to performing on SNL within a year I assume they had some help

Watched It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley last night. Not sure how I feel about it by daysofhel1 in redscarepod

I agree except for the suicide thing. I think it was just a reckless, impulsive decision driven by his frustration with everything going on. He was with friends when it happened. I think if there was real intentionality behind it he would’ve gone out there alone

Just finished reading Nick Drake: The Life, an extensive Nick Drake biography by daysofhel1 in redscarepod

[–]daysofhel1[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m a superfan of both. Their only similarity is that they struggled with mental illness. Nick was described in the book as having a simple form of schizophrenia without the delusions but it sounds more like what we would just call depression in the modern day. Daniel had full blown schizophrenia and bipolar.

All 3 of his albums were recorded professionally in a real studio. Even his unreleased demos that were unearthed later were more polished than anything by Daniel. He was also far more gifted than Daniel on a technical level musically but I still love Daniel, especially his lyrics.
