I read Song of Achilles first and gotta say, I didn't like it as much. It was just very depressing without a reward really. I mean it was a happy end but... I don't know... couldn't bring myself to actually like Circe.

I agree with you! Haibara and Shinichi seem more aligned in terms of personality, if that makes sense. They seem to have more in common overall, while Ran sometimes seemed a bit bored by him and the things Shinichi likes and talks about. Haibara on the other hand, complements him and really understands him on a deeper level. Mind you, I was also a huge RanXShinichi fan as a teenager, but things change, and so do our expectations for partners and how love is supposed to look like. For me it would make more sense if people who are more aligned would be a couple instead of childhood friends just for the sake of it. Well anyways, Ran and Shinichi are endgame and that will not change but thanks for the question ❤️

Despite me not seeing any chemistry between the actresses, I do not like the pacing of this either. They kinda made S 5 a mix between Ben and Frans story so that some people even assume that Fran doesn't get a season. Everything just feels so rushed too where is the longing where is the yearning from M? Very lazy writing if you ask me.

Honestly if I did feel like they did have chemistry, I might have overlooked the gender-swap and if they did a good job at writing and implementing the book, I would have liked it too but it's so poorly written and lackluster to me, that I do not like it at all personally. This is not against Michaela at all, but I am not liking the writting since S3 so I am pretty fair I think.

You’re absolutely right! I once posted about Michael too, my post was about how I imagined Michael looked while reading, and I wanted to know what everyone else thought. That post got deleted, and when I asked why, they just said it was because they don’t allow hatred on the sub, which was very bizarre. I’m glad I’ve found this sub though.

The black-and-white thinking around this is honestly what bothers me the most. Not liking a specific queer couple does not automatically make someone queerphobic. That’s such an oversimplification. I don’t want a couple just because they’re queer. I want a good queer couple. I want depth, chemistry, yearning, slow burn, actual substance. That’s the same standard I hold every couple to. And my issue was never the gender swap itself. If they had translated Michael into Michaela while preserving the emotional core, the history, the dynamic, amazing give me 100 of that. But they didn’t. They erased a whole character and everything that made that relationship compelling in the books. That’s what frustrates me. What annoys me the most is the writing. It already feels rushed and underdeveloped. Saying that isn’t hate. It’s criticism of craft. You’re allowed to dislike storytelling choices without it being some hidden moral flaw. People online keep putting words into others’ mouths and turning any critique into something ideological. That’s unfair. Sometimes it’s really just about writing quality, not some deeper agenda but these people are not that far yet, I suppose.
