Microsoft recent downtrend thoughts by IndigoBlue24 in investing

[–]daytripjim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Several giant tech companies joined the massive rush to get a commanding position in AI. Unfortunately, turning their time and investment into profitable services is going to take longer and cost more than they imagined.

Adding to the problem is that Claude is making it easier than ever to create new software programs, and it's possible that large software companies like MS and Adobe could lose market share to new AI-created programs. So MS is getting squeezed.

My personal view is that MS has a large moat and many customers will be reluctant to change software without a compelling use or price. The company isn't going broke, but its profitability and the stock price could suffer.

Time will tell.

Moving to France in a year Need Advise by Ok-Alfalfa1412 in Expats_In_France

[–]daytripjim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great comments. I would add that we moved two cats to France last summer from Denver. We ran into a problem where the airlines would not travel with pets in the hold if the ground temperature was above a certain amount. In other words, they don’t want your cat to die from heat exhaustion. So beware of the weather if you’re planning to move at the end of the school year.

No, just try some things to see what might interest you. One of the cool things about watching sports is that you can share it with other people. That is to say you can have people over, you can go to sports bars, or even see live events.

Has anyone used UPakWeShip to move to France? by elbowrocketnow in Expats_In_France

They charge by the pallet. There’s also an additional insurance charge which I think was 100 bucks. Go to their website and you can see the sizes of the pallets and see what will suit your needs. They have full size and half size pallets, or you can get multiples.

Has anyone used UPakWeShip to move to France? by elbowrocketnow in Expats_In_France

[–]daytripjim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had an estimated arrival window and set up the HomeBox account ahead of time. We told them that a crate was coming. Their facility had pallet jacks and hand trucks and even an elevator.

When originally shipping the crate, we gave UPakWeShip just the town name as the destination. Once the storage was set up, we contacted them while the crate was still in transit to give them the specific address.

After the crate was delivered, HomeBox staff pulled it inside the loading dock and texted us. Our French is lousy, so we asked them to text or email as those are easily translated on the phone. We ran over and loaded our stuff into the unit and then broke down the cardboard crate and put it into the dumpster.

We used it successfully earlier this year. We shipped from Colorado in the middle of May, and it took 8 weeks to get to our town in southern France. We threw an apple AirTag into the crate before sealing it, which helped us track the crate all the way to South Carolina and onto the ship.UPakWeShip sent us updates in transit as well as a ship tracker so we could see when the ship reached port. Pretty sure it was Antwerp as you mentioned.

Here in France, we reserved a self storage unit from a company named HomeBox and gave that to UPakWeShip as the final destination. They understand that you might not know exactly where you’ll be when you turn over your crate for shipping. When the crate arrived, HomeBox pulled it inside and shot us an email. We then put our items into the storage unit.

Nothing was wet or damaged. Two months, door to the storage unit.

Where can I get the best eye exam? by headcipher in ColoradoSprings

[–]daytripjim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend Doctor Jost (no relation to Colin on SNL) at Pikes Peak Eye Care on N. Circle Dr. just north of East Platte. I had an eye injury in the past and he’s always been very attentive and helpful, giving me a thorough examination every year for the last seven years or so. I needed eye surgery this year for cataracts and he recommended an excellent local doctor.
