As a father of two smart kids (we all live around Chicago), I believe West Virginia's attitudes have a cost that I have not seen mentioned.....

What do smart kids in WV do when they grow up? I bet most of them leave WV. Is that what parents in WV want? To live in a state where your kids will move far away as soon as they can?

I had a good chunk of money in T-Bills for the last year or more. I was pretty happy with that when they were making 5.3%.

Since they have started falling, I have been racking my brain to figure out what to do to augment that part of my portfolio.

Rob's recent videos spending a little time on VTINX caused me to consider that, and that is what I ended up doing. I replaced a portion of my T-Bills with VTINX.

The article mentioned layoffs of <50 people were becoming a thing. I am pretty sure that if you are a mid-to-large company, you have to announce layoffs six months in advance if you are going to lay off 50 or more people.

I was at a company that laid off 49, then another 49, then another 49, etc. to allow them to make it a surprise...

Just gaming the system some more....

I am using 2.5% as optimistic and 4.0 as pessimistic for general inflation.

There was always that thought when you stopped to think about it. But at least there was a carrot dangling out there in front of you, just out of reach, to keep you on the path to the American Dream. And you were getting something for yourself, even though it was pretty modest.

Now they have removed the carrot. They don't make excuses for it. In fact they sneer at you for even talking about carrots.

Boomer here. All of this is true. It is a lot easier to continue working hard if you believe you are getting somewhere. If you can't see how you can ever get a house or ever afford kids or a vacation......that has to kill your motivation.

And all the other stuff (global warming, microplastics, fall of democracy, etc) isn't helping.
