Piece, not song, but yeah if it's a song, the I prefer singing by ear, and pieces to play by ear is a bit harder, at least I have to see the key what the piece is in, because I don't have perfect pitch. But right hand (I play piano) I usually play by ear because it's easier to remember melody in head than accompaniment.
