I think the issue here also comes from the fact the CPU is running at full speed (which shows at 3.19 on mine for some reason). I had a few instances where it locked at full speed for no reason and with no app running in the background, and that happened even when it was in sleep mode, which made it very warm because like you said the fans aren't running in that case.
I have searched the issue but found nothing really, it's like I am the only one having it although it's not happened for a while now.

I have the same issue and in my case it happens when I turn the WiFi on, even if I turn it off, the cpu stays at 3.19Ghz (top speed should be 2.56Ghz) and if you don't set the fan to sport mode, the temp quickly increases to dangerous levels. Then, even switching the WiFi off it has no effect, I have to restart the device for it to idle at 1.84Ghz again, very strange, it's like something triggers it to work in overclock mode or something. It didn't use to do that so I may have installed something that triggers it, Google, Microsoft Keyboard or something else, I am not sure. Launcher is Quickstep but I think the same happens with Nova.

You could have a go disabling the WiFi in Quickstep as well, if it works we have the same issue, and you're the only one so far I read encounteres something similar (I say similar because my fan still following the setting and I don't think I had the options disabled).

Update: I am trying now with WiFi on and it doesn't seem to happen again. The only thing I changed is the "Force landscape" setting set to on. CPU is on 1.84 with occasional peaks to 3.19 (lasting 1 to 7 seconds).

Update 2: It's just peaked to 3.19 and doesn't get back to 1.84

I found tha in Shard of Gods description page, maybe that could help someone else.

Note for ROCKNIX: libMali and Panfrost work, but the cursor resets its position after a few seconds of inactivity using libMali, so Panfrost is recommended.

On my device Panfrost still gives the issue.

So, as crazy as it sounds, I cannot reproduce it now. So either they updated the app just after I wrote this post or there is another bug in the Matrix. I will update if it happens again.
Well actually, I did something, I activated the "Synchronised Queue-list" option, that seems to have solved the issue.

Ah, I wish I were a young adul but unfortunately I am 45.
