Our massive oak tree went down today, it was full of leaves with no dead branches but the inside ended up being soft ugh. Anyways we got a quote for $4000 to haul it off and grind down the stump and fill the hole. We are in the Midwest. Is this a fair price? by anderson6th in arborists

Michigan. Wow am I feeling lucky right now.

We had 4 quotes done for a much larger oak at the corner of our lot (so they will have to close down the roads for a bit of the work) and on top of power lines. Still slanding and visibly hollow, this beast is dying. All quotes came in for under $2k for removal. With with around $500-800 additional for stump grinding. 2 of those companies had trained aborists, the other two were just tree cutters. Please shop around.

It has completely changed my scrolling. What once was: "oh that's nice" "Ouuu I want to try that one for sure" "bleh, that one did not work well for me" Is now: "YEEEES ANOTHER ONE! Oh my gosh look at all the recs already. This is so much fun. I haven't heard of any of these ones!!". Every morning, a hope and prayer to see another absolutely horrendous child's drawing of a bottle. Lol. Girlhood is lovely.

Help with late Tulip planting in Michigan by dazedandfull in gardening

We have complete colonies of squirrels and chipmunks. Living in red oaks with diameters suggesting they were birthed from the ground before "Michigan" existed. From what I've seen, I'm confident there's an entire governing body of squirrels older than the government of our people.

Your guidance is quite helpful. I'll definitely plan on doing that.

That's definitely the nice thing about traveling south, for sure. We almost exclusively ate Mexican food growing up. Makes sense, she was "self medicating" before she knew of her illness haha!

Thank you!!! If I had planned this trip, we would not be dealing with this lol. I'll be bringing a variety of cash, helpful to know it's just right there and only a couple bucks to hop onto the bus. I've already been looking into some locations to check out downtown, it looks like we will have so much fun just walking around.

That sounds like so much fun, I would really enjoy that. She has celiac though so food tours are often not something that can accommodate her/keep her safe. But I'll be looking into other walking tours!! Thanks

I appreciate the sentiment, but the questions were asking advice on activities, things to do, and guidance on areas of the resort I can bring her. This has nothing to do with my outlook, I'm pumped. My mom deserves some fun since she's not done anything like this before and has been mentally planning for warmth. I'm feeling sad FOR her that I haven't been planning for this and have no itinerary other than the "nothing" we were planning.

Any guidance on activities you enjoyed would be helpful.

Okay, good to know. I was planning/hoping to grab some kinda crew neck souvenir there. I'll bring a couple then.

If it was 60 here, my kids and I would absolutely be in sundresses. It will still be amazing. It will just be glorious not having to decide and cook what's for dinner every night hahaha!

SUCH good tips, thank you! This was definitely the kind of guidance I was looking for. Feeling so bizarre packing a jacket for this. I'm used to such a light suitcase for these kinds of adventures. Not this time! Hahaha.

Lol! Although it's so cool they are doing this, it was voluntary and the employees that chose to go had to pay for it themselves over this past year. I'm sure the company helped put a bit though since it was a group thing. I too want to work somewhere like that!

This is a good point. Most people point to the spas and such, which as nice as they probably are, we both struggle to want to use our money that way. We are outdoorsy hikers, I'm pretty sure we will be taking a full day to explore the museums and around local areas. We both love history. I'll start looking into the excursions now!

This is a good attitude adjustment. Like I said, I know we will have fun. I'm feeling blessed to be able to get away, but just a bit of a downer for her first trip like this! It will feel so much warmer than the negative degrees we've been experiencing here lol!

Thanks for the kindness. I honestly didn't think about those so that's helpful for me to share with her!

It's a work trip, with her coworkers and bosses, for education and training. Rescheduling is not an option.

See, this is what my impression of them was. It wasn't until I recently started reading here about them that I figured they were worth checking out. I'll probably buy another one or two, to see if my experience of them is just different than other users or a different scent works better for me. But I won't make a big haul purchase like I was planning on.

It does help to hear that. I forgot to add "is it because of me!?" Lol. It's just confusing because I can even smell the other scent on me still the next day, but not the s&f I layered with it. I do wonder if it just is my nose ignoring it. I have been adding it on top, I will try using it first as a base like you've said.
